God I'm so sick of religious belief posts....
I don't care what you believe as long as you believe in SOMETHING. Whether it be a god, yourself, love and kindness, or whatever. And I don't know why you care if someone else believes in a higher power!? You've gotta do what you gotta do to get through this life. If someone believes in God, it's not your place to tell them they're dilluded because you don't know one way or another if He or She exists or not. Just respect each other's beliefs and be kind to each other.

1. I believe in nothing.
Except to the extent which belief in nothing may qualify as a belief in SOMETHING, in which case I don't believe it.

:P

3. Good point, but I find in my life experience, that it's more often
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 10:42 AM by leeman67
the religious among us who feel the need to talk down to and preach to the non-believers, more so than the other way around. Of course I'm speaking as someone who was raised Southern Baptist, and had religion shoved down my throat from the time I was old enough to speak my first words.

6. But He is also sick of religiosity.
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 10:56 AM by DenverDem
That's why He sent His Son down here to show us how to live, but when that didn't fit into our hubristic world view, we whacked His Son and rewrote His words into an imperialistic slave philosophy.

Why do you think they call it the ROMAN Catholic Church?

I'm not saying the Protestants did anything but screw it up more.

7. You know theres Greek Catholics too
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 10:57 AM by JohnKleeb
Thaats what Baba was before she converted :). The Romans hijacked the church and made it what they wanted it to be, the early Catholic Church was pretty good towards women, even having women priests and church leaders.

8. Greek Orthodox and Ethiopian Orthodox are much closer
to the first century Christ, you are correct. The Council of Nicea was where the theology was subverted.

9. I like the Orthodox Church
I know they've had their troubles with my church, the Catholic one but I like them, I relate to them easier than I do the Protestants. Greek Catholics I believe share a lot of rituals with the Orthodox, my grandma(baba as I used to call her) recalls celebrating Xmas not on the 25th but later, and other things too. I believe she converted to Roman Catholicism when she married my Slovene Grandfather, shes Slovak.
