The simple life
Monthly take home pay from truck driving gig: $2400. House payment on a 2 bedroom bungalow in the suburbs: $700. Utilities: $200. 1989 Isuzu pick up that still runs good: paid for. Monthly payment on all other debt: $125. The piece of mind that comes from living simple: Priceless.

I used to try to get rich. I've went into business for myself twice failing both times. It's so hard to get a business off the ground I don't see how anyone makes it.

I've also tried higher education with hopes of landing a high paying job. But, alas, I just didn't have the brains.

So here I am living the simple life. It's not too bad. The only problem I have is that I have to work 6 day weeks, but they are just 8 hour days so that's tolerable.

The simple life has its rewards. May you excell at all your endeavors, but remember if you ever fall on hard times, try to keep it simple.

1. Amen Droopy

I managed to pay the house off last year and I have never felt so good about anything in my life. I can't think of anything that would make me put the old home place back in hock except maybe a tragic illness in the family. I certainly would not hock the place for any "bling bling" things I might desire.

4. LOL, I get that from freeper types
around here. My answer is I paid it off in spite of the Bush economy. Any of them that know me very well know I'm about the hardest working SOB they ever met, besides my Dad and Grandad that is.

3. Congrats, GTRMAN
I'm a long way off from achieving that as I have just bought my house, but paying the thing off early is one of my goals.

5. Keep at it
It's the best investment us "working class dogs" can make. I bought the old place cheap enough and the old house was in pretty bad shape. I've done a lot of fixing on it and have a lot left to do.

life's a lot more pleasant when you live for the now, rather than losing your mind wondering what going to be...

7. Droopy, this morning I woke up to an excelelent post by K-W on
another thread on the economy. He says our entire economy has now become a casino witha winner take all mentality and we have become addicts that want to hit the jackpot. After I finished reading it, I came to your post, and realized the truth of what you are saying. That the steady slogging work needed to meet our basic needs, take care of our family, educate our children and provide for their health seems to have lost the significance it once had.You have through your own efforts realized what is important.I congratulate you.You have broken the addiction we all have.

Your family and children are the luckiest people in the world.Keep it up and good luck.

8. Droopy, you speak the truth...
I used to push and struggle to climb the ladder, and wound up with various ailments in the process, including cancer (which I beat).

I am now *very* content just to know that I am comfortable and can carry on in my current post until I decide to retire. I love my wife, we can make our house payments and have somemething extra to stash away each month.

I also completely shed my credit card debt a couple of years ago, and pay on a strict cash/debit card basis now.

Our few indulgences consist of the occasional concert and a baseball game or two. We couldn't be happier!

:toast:
