3. Hehe
I'm not the world's biggest jazz aficionado, but I can appreciate his work.

My half-brother would probably be a deacon in the church though, LOL. :)

5. Nice!
You always show up when I most need a mental hug!

You know - I probably never should have brought my faith (read my spirituality) into the public forum - but I feel it is my faith that makes me a liberal. I guess as a Liberal Catholic I should get used to it!

Thanks TE - I wish you and your family 'nuff love!

6. Don't let it get to you.
You're one of my favorite DUers 'cause you always have something interesting to say (unlike me, LOL). I was really ignorant about the Venezuela situation and learned so much from your posts.

I'll always have your back. Besides us anime geeks have to stick together. ;)

I get blindsided by stuff like this. I know where it comes from but - I feel so stable here 'mongst the righteous that I get frazzled when snubbed - plus us anime peeps we DO have to stick together to promote the ONE TRUE ART! :)

Thanks :yourock:

7. well the lyrics are a little uh, silly and absurd
it is Robyn after all. Why, are you having a rough time? back at cha

I was raised Catholic, too; my uncle was a "radical priest" in Korea and was tortured by one of the evil regimes there. He was very liberal and I was proud to be related to him. It is important to have liberal Catholics - when I was a kid, Catholics were pretty liberal.. we believed in peace and justice! I always thought of Christ as the first socialist, in a way.

Thanks C. good vibes to you as well.

13. Well I'm a Catholic in the Catholic Worker, Dorothy Day, socialist style
Acts of the Apostles stuff - communal living and charity - but this is rarely seen in the public image that the anti-Catholic media has pushed. Plus this ultra conservative Vatican ain't helpin' much!

Thanks for the love TE!

that is very cool. DO you read Merton as well? There is a very vocal Merton Center here... if you know who Molly Rush is... she was and is very active in it. She was involved in pouring blood on missiles years ago and was arrested quite a bit.

21. I've read Seven Storey Mountain twice and have recently started
Seeds of Contemplation. I also enjoy St john of the Cross and St Theresa of Avilla.

My favorite saint (whom I also love to read) is St Therese of Lisieux. As I look back on my life its eery how many times she has been close to me in one form or another.

I'm getting married on her feast day.

i don't talk about these things on the boards too much for fear of seeming really weird.

40. there are many beautiful aspects to Catholicism
that tend to be overshadowed by some of the problematic politics of the pope's views on women/the American church, etc., misguided protection of abusers, and the role of women in general. The Dorothy Day/Merton school, and the views that influenced my uncle are very different.

I have many positive memories of my time at Catholic school, the choir, and the power of the services. Everyone in my family is named for saints. The story of the Little Flower is very beautiful as well. Many of my great- aunts were nuns and two of my uncles were Seminarians.

10. My furry friend - I think the problem is I invite them
I actively engage in the "I'm Catholic and proud" and find myself looking like a Vatican stooge - when I feel like a Catholic DESPITE the Vatican. When I try to just "report" what the Vatican teaches I sound like FOX - "we report you decide"

I admit it - that's what it sounds like. I know the peeps here who have come to know me know thats not how I am but....I don't know - I should go to bed.

Hey BTW - I got the whole Cornell 77 - better still - a newbie DUer showed me something AWESOME - a site with free downloadable shows. I'll PM you with the link.

Thanks Brother!
- Peace

11. I try to ignore them.
I'm not Christian but I'm not an atheist either...quite the opposite actually, member of a highly disorganized polytheistic religion (and we LIKE it that way :P). I always feel caught in the middle in those arguments so I try to leave them alone.

It always feels like one big circle jerk.

24. That's disturbing.
Is it just me... or is this assumption of 100% acceptance of church doctrine on the part of the clergy a new thing?

I always knew they had their own minds and were free to use them... nowadays it seems people think they're like robots.
