WARNING: It's another big day for emailed viruses
Just got 100 in a batch. Had 220 come before that, both on my truthout email and on my Hotmail.

Open NO attachments.

4. I feel SOOO left out.
I haven't received even one of these things. I think my ISP (bellsouth) is using very good filters, and only an occasional spam slips though. The company I work for got hit hard last year and now their mail handler is also doing a great job of filtering. Since those are the only two servers I use - no viruses. But I think I'll keep updated on my OS and McAfee anyway. ;-)

6. Idiots
People are still idiots. As long as people are stupid and reckless, we'll have this happening.

19. presumably you mean "idiots in redmond"

it's not the users' fault that the software that came on their PCs is full of holes. imagine if new cars didn't have an ignition interlock. would you blame "idiot car owners" for the wave of car thefts? this wave of viruses/worms is directly attributable to the design flaws in windows and outlook.

16. Don't you love Zone Alarm
I always wonder what those 20000 hits to my server were all about.

With AVG Anti-Virus, Ad-ware and Zone Alarm - nothing is getting into this gal's computer!!

25. Hmmmm...
Zone alarm will not take care of a virus coming in as a payload with an email.

Never open an email attachment unless you know what it is.

The best way of getting rid of viruses, worms and other problems is to stop using Microsoft products, esp Windows and install Linux.

I have used Linux exclusivly since 1995 and before that dual booted since 1992. I have never had ONE single virus or worm infect my systems since I stopped using Windows.

(This is written under Gentoo Linux using Mozilla Firebird browser)

10. Yeah... It is happening again...I just got this notice in my email
An earlier email with the subject " A Greeting-card for you ." was a virus that was NOT sent by Politex.

PLEASE DO NOT OPEN the attachment.

We are sorry that this has occurred.

Thank you for your patience.

Jerry Politex

11. It's reaching epidemic proportions
and something needs to be done. I'm getting tons of virii warnings from my old email account which I don't use anymore. All the attachments are eaten by the server and warnings are forwarded to my new address by Comcast. I have ZoneAlarm installed and it helps with trojans, but not email virii. Up until a few weeks ago I almost never recieved an infected email, now I get dozens a day. Something majore has changed.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what the solution is. Maybe a national ad campaign? Encryption of all email? This recent wave has me very worried that the current Internet might be doomed. In other words, the BFEE's wet dream.

15. Haven't received even one (virus packet) today.
I received several hundred with SOBIG a couple of weeks ago. I didn't open any attachments, and the College server had apparently removed the virus, anyway. The big hassles were: receiving so many junk e-mails; having my machine emulated by the virus in posting to others; and receiving nasty e-mails from those who had received virus e-mails from 'me.'

17. So happy I use Linux
I recently installed W98 on the first partition of my hard drive, just to try out the setup for RAID and Firewire, but the only thing I do with it is play games (and run scandisk, of course). Linux is quite happy with the way it works out, and I don't get much email other than ZeppNews and some stuff from the moveon.org folks.

20. no matter what OS you use,
you can still be a victim of having your inbox stuffed with worm-laden emails. all it takes is for your email address to be in enough people's address books. the worm on the sending end doesn't know what OS you're running. and we are all victims of stolen bandwidth from this worm attack, even if we're lucky enough not to receive hundreds of copies of it ourselves.

a big thank you to Bill Gates for making all of this possible.

21. I guess that's the advantage of being antisocial
...I'm not in anyone's address book, so I don't get included in the trojan automailings and my address doesn't get spoofed as a sender of worms and virii.

See, I knew there was a reason socializing was bad! :p

22. Not necessarily
I'm quite antisocial, and I still got about twenty of those "Re: Approved" or "Your details" messages. They were from addresses I hadn't even heard of. Unless it's that Yahoo group...

24. I just got an e-mail from Bushwatch
warning about another e-mail supposedly sent from Bushwatch. The bad e-mail is from politex and the message is "Bushwatch-A birthday surprise for you". If you get that, delete it. It's a virus.
