2. I have 4 percocet pills left
I don't want to waste them! Man, percocet is some good shit- I can see why people get addicted to it.

4. Put a moistened tea bag on it.
And an ice pack on your jaw.

Also, if you don't have any more pain meds, take a couple of Aleve or Naproxen (it's usually safe...prescription strength is about 100mg stronger than two Aleve).

5. Was it impacted?
If he really had to dig into the bone, it would explain the lingering pain.

I had all four of them out at once. The guy was a butcher with a reputation (which I didn't find out until later). He would just knock people out and dig in mercilessly. I had major bruises and swelling on my face that took two weeks to heal and I couldn't eat solid or hard food for nearly a month.

The whole experience severely traumatized me and gave me dental phobia that took years to get over.

See, it could be worse. ;-)

8. it was impacted
that dentist sounds awful!!

My oral surgeon was fabulous. I was supposed to go under, but they couldn't get the IV in (I have super small veins). So they gave me nitrous, made me happy, gave me novocaine, and BAM less than 5 minutes later, it was all over :-)

6. Call your dentist tomorrow
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 11:38 AM by Mika
It could be an infection or "dry socket".

DO NOT LET IT GO!!

In the mean time, rinse with lukewarm salt water (sea salt is preferable).

11. Did he prescribe an antibiotic as well as the percocet?
Also keep in mind that the acetaminophen (tylenol) is NOT an anti-inflammatory agent.

Aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen are and might be a better match for your pain.

14. I am on amoxicillin
and I'm allergic to aspirin, so that limits my pain relief choices. The Aleve I've been taking helps some- but it's not perfect.

9. Try arnica montana or hypericum perforatum
Get a 30X or 30C potency at your local health food store. The arnica is a first choice because it's indicated for dental pain due to trauma (ie. dental work). I've used it successfully with post-extraction pain myself.
