'tried to save a parking lot dog outside Corbin, Ky.....grrrrrrrrrr
Coming back from vacation we stopped in the Shoney's (exit 29) outside of Corbin, Ky. There was a poor little brown dog running around in 3 adjoining parking lots off the highway (one of them Shoney's) and as a car pulled in he would go running up to it, thinking that it was his "folks" coming back for him. I heard this is what abandoned dogs do - they sit and wait for the car that kindly dropped them off to come back.
As we had our own dog in the car we could hardly pick up this one. The Shoney's staff (very nice) said he had been running loose there for days. Bottom line - none of the dog rescue people that we called would come out - I was told that 40-50 dogs are dropped off per DAY at the local shelter! Its a very, very poor area and the dogs are not spayed or neutered and just run wild til then are run over. What a terrible situation!!
Final bottom line - nice Shoney's server promised to catch him and bring him to the shelter (closed at 4 pm yesterday) today. If I understood correctly the area shelter will spay and neuter for free. I hope our sad little guy made it there where he may have a fighting chance. Spay and neuter your pets!!!!

1. You did good.
You did your best which is something to be proud of! We've managed to save several strays near the office. My coworker's wife runs a rescue shelter, so it's pretty easy for us. We've met some very nice people around here who are always ready to help these unfortunate animals. It is always encouraging to find out there are still folks with a willing compassionate heart.

4. I love all animals but dogs, particularly, are so sweet - how can
people be so cruel to them? I was sitting in the Shoney's just crying about this poor little fellow - the way he would run up to every single car - it was heartbreaking. Those bastards that dropped him off (I bet it was on the highway) should have to suffer. I used to work with a woman whose brother in law (in Chicago)drove his car about 5 neighborhoods away and abandoned his dog in the park. Somehow or other the dog made it back to his own house (incredible!)Years later this guy committed suicide down in the basement - with the same loyal dog by his side. Apparently, his only friend.

2. I also cry for all the poor animals that got lost or
lost their homes after Hurricane Charley.

What a shame that no one picked up that poor dog and gave it a warm and loving home. Stories like this really upset me!

3. Good deed
People who help little lost animals will always be blessed.
Seeing the poor little dog running up to every car that stops is heartbreaking. Thinking that it's his friends and having it not be is so sad.

I hope the little guy makes it to a home or to his home.
