2. I generally go out to see what I can do to help in such cases
I've stopped a few girlfriend beatings that way. It might be a good idea to take a peek.

8. I don't look like much when I go running out in my pajama bottoms
but I pack a mean back of tricks. I like to think that the guy never wants to ever touch a woman in a hostile manner once I get through with them and the police arrive. I imagine the recovery time for a separated shoulder or broken ribs/jaw gives them ample time to reflect on their behavior.

16. When my older boy was a toddler,
we had new neighbors move in next door. After they had settled for a couple of weeks, I met them for the first time...nice young newlywed couple.

I mentioned that I had a son, and the young woman said, "Oh yes...he likes to scream."

"yes, that would be him," I replied.

14. Well you are an angel, a true champion of what is good
I knocked on a neighbors door once and asked him to call the police for me because my BF was beating the crap outta me and he had already ripped our phone out. I didn't even ask to be let in, I just needed him to place a phone call on my behalf.
Know what that asshole said to me  "I don't want to get involved" and shut the door in my face. My BF then proceeded to beat the shit outta me right there on the guys doorstep.

So bless you, bless you, bless you, BML and Thank You from the bottom of my heart for your willingness to step into dangerous situations to help a person in need :loveya:
I think you just became my new secret DU crush ;-)

15. awww shucks, it's not a secret if you tell me ;)
I'm sorry your neighbor was such an ass. If it were in one of the apartment buildings were Mrs. McLargehuge and I lived, we'd have take you in and I'd have taken your abusive BF out.

Guys who beat women are scum and should be dealt with accordingly.

18. Well me an my big mouth. Cats outta the bag I guess.
That happened a long long time ago. I have a wonderful guy now that would also never dream of hitting a woman. Believe me I've tested him a time or two in 15 years time ;-)

It would have been nice if that neighbor was you or someone with an equal sense of justice and honor as you have. You are kind to express your willingness to have helped that day. When that jerk shut his door knowing what was going to happen to me, your heart just sinks. That almost feels worse than the beating itself. That sinking feeling stays with you longer than the bruises do.

But like I said that was a life time ago. I felt compelled to offer my personal thanks to you for being one of the good guys that will without question come to someones rescue.

Your a good man BML. Mrs. BML picked a good one ;-) Hello to :hi: Mrs. BML too.

11. Yes - you should always call 911. Often, the police don't have much to do
anyways. At least, in most areas. Where I live, they mostly just wait around to be called. They'll even admit to it.

For some govenment class I had to ride in the back of a cop car for 8 hours and they only got about 3 calls. Since they had nothing else to do, they decided to pull over speeders.

17. Excuse me?
I was a 311 operator. Non-emergency. Most of the time, people don't even know what an appropriate 911 call is. So I had to tell them CALL 911. YES, they are waiting for your call to save lives.

WHEN YOU HEAR A SCREAM YOU CALL 911. And if you don't, have the blood of Kitty Genovese on your conscience and your hands.

I've had people who refused to believe a call was 911 if they couldn't see blood, or somebody unconscious. Hell, sometimes they did have somebody unconscious and still didn't believe they should dial 911. So I transferred them.

You don't call 911 when you want a ride to a doctor's appointment. YOU DO CALL WHEN YOU HEAR A SCREAM OF TERROR.

...it was a teenage boy who had just suffered a compound spiral fracture of the femur (thigh bone) while running.
