I want another cat!
It's been a year on August 29th since my beloved Fergus died (unbelievable, but true). I'd love to add a third kitty to my household now, but my husband refuses. He's living in Dallas now, 1200 miles away from me; would it be mean for me to get a kitty against his wishes? Our Monty does seem very happy now; he always seemed like the "odd cat out" when Fergus was alive because Ferg and Simba would lie together and Monty would be standoffish. Now Monty is a cuddlebug and loves to lie near me; he seems to relish the increased attention. I'm afraid adding a cat would disturb that. Thoughts?

1. Hey!
I got your email. Sorry for the delayed response. We've been traveling. I'll reply soon.

OK, on to your question: If you're hankering for another cat, maybe you could be a foster home for a cat rescue group. It's not permanent, so hubby can't be angry. You'll get the satisfaction of helping a rescued animal, and get to love different kitties all the time.

Possibility?

Are you ready for school? We start a week from today. Nervous but ready. I've been waiting for this for such a long time. :P

4. My Dog Is Dying and I DON'T Want Somebody Else
I've had about 3 personal relationships with my babes, and am now going through this last thing and I DON'T want it to happen again.

5. Oh, I'm sorry
It is a horrible thing to experience; with great love comes great pain when we lose the ones we love, be they human or furry/feathered/scaly.

My sister has always wanted a cat, but her husband doesn't want her to get one. She says she'll get one someday when he's not here anymore (he's been battling cancer for about 7-8 years now), but when I was suffering over Ferg's last illness she heard my agonized voice on the phone and said she didn't know if she wanted a pet because it would hurt so much to lose it eventually. I truly believe we are strong enough to stand the pain and that having so much love in our lives is worth the pain. My thoughts are with you during your dog's sickness. Take care.

6. You don't say why your husband opposes another cat

and whether its willfulness or a thought-out reason.

And physical separations are stressful - assuming this is not a marital separation - and why add another point of contention to the situation by taking an action that affects your household that you don't agree on.

And why disturb the other cat's contentedness because 'you'd love to add a third kitty ...'. That's kind of an ill-defined desire. Perhaps you should take a critical look at what's best for the family - human and animal alike.

8. No marital problems - he has a new job,
And I'm staying put to finish law school and then joining him.

I don't want to be selfish and harm sweet little Monty (or big; he weighs 20 lbs.). I think my husband thinks 3 are a lot to handle (as if he ever cleans or changes their litter, but he does feed and water them). I would have every cat in the world living in my house if I had the room and no olfactory powers!
