Just got a reminder for XP SP2...
Should I download it? I've read some things about it that have made me a little bit skeptical.

4. Yes.... However, I checked the Windows site, and they don't seem to be
offereing SP2 for download, at least, not for XP Home.

5. They are, but they give the option of downloading
the monster version, or a more practical version they will download after fondling your computer's data.

Turn on the automatic download if you want it.

Good luck.

8. Well...
I got the little popup telling me that it was ready for download. I don't think I'm gonna do it right now. I already have a good firewall and antivirus setup.

3. I won't be
I have no idea what's in that bloated piece of crap.

I'll keep my virus definitions up to date, and employ a good firewall.

Oh, and I never use IE.

That should keep my computer safe.

I may be wrong, but I am sick of downloading these patches, and this one will take up half my computer.

Just my 2 cents. Maybe others will have better information and advice.

9. I've been installing updates
since Saturday. They're already downloaded on my computer, they pop up even when I'm off line. I have a pirate copy so I think it might be the first package. It doesn't want to stop.

10. I'd wait.
I'm just starting to test it at work.

It does interfere with P2P (peer software/connectivity, including Kazaa though I didn't test THAT at work!)

And if you have a firewall, I gather that the SP2 firewall is actually credible (though if hackers find a way to bypass it (which is likely), it's not worth having.)

12. As for firewalls...
I would recomend Zone Alarm (By Zone Labs) over any other windows firewall.
