36. No, it's "Chicago at Carnegie Hall Vols. I, II, III and IV,"
and it must be heard to be believed. I picked up a vinyl copy at a swap meet not long ago for $5 and, while I haven't actually listened to it, and don't intend to, I simply had to have it. The plastic alone must be worth more than $5.

and realized that I was not alone in the world. I love the Clash, and London Calling is one of my all-time favorite albums.

Was the first one I actually went out and bought, too.

The cry of the tortured man.
Remember Allende in the days before
Before the army came.
Please remember Victor Jara
In the Santiago stadium.
Es verdad...those Washington Bullets again.

i used to run with some record company people in the day...i ended up with some tremendous Clash vinyl no one can get...i have a rule: if you see clash you don't own, you must buy it....

the clash is god.

35. that's ok...we still have The Clash, which rules.
i don't think it's as common as my other one, which is the english of what i am using here now.

BTW in keeping with the thread here, the clash is god. nothing beats the clash. if you are thinking of buying something by the clash, quit thinking, just buy it.

7. I copped out with Super Black Market Clash....
Only because It's the album that I feel best represented the full scope of their abilities. But since it's a compilation I'm not sure my vote is legal.

If I had to go for a legal vote I'd say London Calling.

15. yes, by all means!
buy it!

while London Calling is the obvious favorite, it's a different kind of sound for the Clash. "Give 'em Enough Rope" still has the early driving sound that "The Clash" had.

14. I chose Sandinista! because...
...of some choice individual cuts (Magnificent Seven, Hitsville U.K., The Call Up, Washington Bullets, Charlie Don't Surf) and also because the album as a whole is one of those sprawling and extreme works of art that takes some wild chances. Sure there are some misses amongst the hits, but I like the risk-taking, the dub experiments, etc. Sure, London Calling is great, great, great, but Sandinista! is an embarassment of riches.

22. There's an interesting Kurt Cobain connection there
He had heard OF the Clash, but living in the sticks of Montesano, Washington, he wasn't able to find their records at his local K-Mart. So he finally got a hold of Sandinista and was rather, um, surprised, at how it sounded. I think he expected stuff more along the lines of London Calling and Give 'Em Enough Rope.

I like Sandinista, personally.

26. Hmm...looks like there's a sympathy vote
I don't vote in music polls (and didn't in this one, but I'm clicking everything today) -- let's just say that if my household awarded food based on musical interest, ability and knowledge, I'd have starved to death a long time ago.

34. Well, all I can say is
YOU SHOULD SEE MY HOUSE.

I've got all the hallmarks of the neighborhood crazy person - I'm a widow, I have multiple cats, three rooms filled with books, and a basement that is a music geek's wet dream, crammed with about 30,000 records.

I joke that soon I'll be out wearing support hose, chasing kids off my front lawn with a broom.

21. A quick question for you, ChavezSpeakstheTruth...
...because you seem like a good one to ask: Could you recommend a well-written and informative Coltrane biography? I think I'm at a point in my twisted life right now where I need to A) spend a lot more time listening to his music, and B) learn more about the man himself.

Thank you, my good man.

28. Of course I can - here's two I love
1 - The first has more to do with A Love Supreme - A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane's Signature Album by Ashley Kahn

2 - The second is VERY in depth - it even speaks of the slave owner family that owned his grand parents. - John Coltrane : His Life and Music (The Michigan American Music Series)
by Lewis Porter

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/047208643X/qid=1092858140/sr=ka-1/ref=pd_ka_1/102-0559288-8864125

37. Definitely Sandinista
Their all good, but the eclectism of Sandinista makes it the best in my mind. I'm not big on reggae, but the collaborations with Mikey Dread are all awesome. Also, The Call Up is probably my favorite Clash song, and Washington Bullets and Street Parade aren't far behind.

I voted for the first Clash album because of its sheer ferocity and because it was one of the first records I bought.
