Truck Driver Tries To Swat Wasp - Crashes Dumping 15 tons Of Jam On Road
<snip>

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German truck driver lost control of his vehicle while trying to swat a wasp and spilled his 15-ton load of jam jars on the motorway, police said on Tuesday.

"He was trying so hard to kill the wasp that he smashed the truck against the barrier," a spokesman for the motorway police in the western town of Greven said.

"That's when he really started attracting wasps. There was jam all over the motorway."

Police had to close the A1 motorway for two hours while they cleaned up the mess, causing a long traffic jam.

11. FWIW, it was most likely a female. "Advance work" is not part of the
male wasp job description.

3. Hey, this is serious SHIT, have you ever had a wasp
fly in your car while you are driving? It's f'ing scarey shit, esp. when you lose sight of them!! Three of us started screaming, flailing and generally wigging out when a hornet flew in my car one hot day.

There is an intersection downtown we call the wasp zone, has these weird prickly bushes that attract every stinging winged insect on earth. Roll past there with your windows down, and you are sure to have one fly in your automobile at the most inopportune time, like when the light turns green!!

5. Nothing like that
but out on the porch... I swatted at a dark colored wasp a week ago... with the fly swatter.... and I managed to rouse a nest of red wasps just past the next truss.... BAM!! on the back of the neck in a split second. They got one in... I got the rest.... heh heh heh... no more nest. You have got to admire their courage and tenacity when it comes to their being threatened.

7. my big guy (98 lbs, 4 legs, big brown eyes
and very long nose) was stung on his nose by a wasp. His face swelled up so much that his retriever floppy ears were actually hard and thick. you could barely see his eyes.

the vet sed give him 4 benadryl (he is a thin, but huge puppy) and sure 'nuff, within an hour there was noticeable improvement. poor thing, I even shared a beer with him. which he really appreciated.

9. I spent most of my free time
in the (can I say woods?) ok... out in the wild with a black lab "hunting" with a bb gun.... whilst I was growing up.... I remember walking along one day with him... and up through the brush we came upon one of them there paper looking nests... BIG... symmetrically built... cone shape.... uhhhhh we left quietly.... my grandmother always tole me... "leave sleeping dogs lie".... so we did....

BUT I absolutely fall out when I see that commercial where the two guys are going to cut down the hornet nest... and cap it in the garbage can.... what a hoot!! In a way.... it coulda been me... just cracks me up when I see it..... never fails.

17. Have yet to hear of a retriever ever truning down a drink
What's the deal with that anyway? I have threatened Havocdad with serious injury if he ever offers a brewski to the 90 pound hound. Don't want to have to start taking him to meetings.

12. Wasps have become a huge annoyance in Germany this year
As I can testify - I've just returned from a two weeks holiday, cycling through some parts of Germany with my son. We were camping/eating outside all the time, and regardless of the place, it was nearly impossible to have a meal without being "visited" by several wasps. We did not get stung on the trip, but my son was stung a week earlier.

It's probably due to last years hot summer and a following mild winter that wasps have propagated very well this year.
