24. Midnight Special was actually a Huddie Ledbetter song . . .
better known to most at Leadbelly . . . it had been around for years before CCR recorded it, and was a staple of hootenannys and other assorted folk music gatherings . . . CCR's was a good rockin' version, but I prefer the old blues renditions by Leadbelly, Pete Seeger, and others . . .

as for my favorite CCR tune, I'd probably have to go with Proud Mary . . . we used to sing it sitting around the deck of the Clearwater at night . . . brings back fond memories . . .

35. Some repubs think that it's a patriotic anthem!
That always freaks me out and pisses me off! Listen to the lyrics, people! It's a protest song!!!

Rant off.

"Fortunate Son" is my favorite.

16. yeap. and loved its use as a title song for the movie of the same name
from the robert stone book "dog soldiers." actually the book is much better than the film, but nick notle as the neal casady type character was sweet.

17. Green River
I always liked that tune. And I'll always have good feelings about Credence Clearwater Revival. In the late 1960's they donated a beautiful brand new motorized fishing boat to the Indians who were occupying Alcatraz island, called the "Clearwater". That boat was a real lifeline, especially since the island had no water. Credence Clearwater and the Grateful Dead donated food and money to the Indians to help keep them going and really didn't look for glory or recognition through the media.

31. Born On The Bayou
The opening "chord" goes right through yer brain. The guitar tone is deliciously ragged and the fabled Swamp Tremolo began here. It has served John rather well.

For words, it's hard to beat "Run Through The Jungle."

Over on the mountain,
Thunder Magic spoke:
'Let the people know my wisdom.
Fill the land with smoke.'

Could've been written about Cheney The Dick, doncha think?

34. Fortunate Son

Some folks are born made to wave the flag,
ooh, they're red, white and blue.
And when the band plays "Hail To The Chief",
oh, they point the cannon at you, Lord,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no senator's son,
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, no,

Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh.
But when the taxman come to the door,
Lord, the house look a like a rummage sale, yes,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no millionaire's son.
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, no.

Yeh, some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
ooh, they send you down to war, Lord,
And when you ask them, how much should we give,
oh, they only answer, more, more, more, yoh,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no military son,
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one,

It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, no no no,
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate son, no no no,

- John C, Fogerty

Just the thing for working class kids who were against the war and didn't want our big brothers killed in it.
