I have a question about the Olympic crowds
I realize that many of the events are preliminary, but feel that based upon my previous years viewing of the Olympics, the crowds seem smaller.

I had thought they may be, due to the increase in security hassles, so may just be unintentionally fulfilling my original thoughts.

Any thoughts on this?

1. Tickets didn't sell very well.
If you have spare time right now, you might be able to get an almost good deal on a last minute seat.

2. About a week before the games, they were at 90% of the tickets sold...
...the medal round stuff was almost completely sold out.

So I'm guessing that some of the venues (like rowing) are out away from Athens and are more difficult to get to for "just the preliminaries".

3. Crowds are way down, and the IOC is considering giving tickets away...
to boost the numbers.

4. On second thought,
I'm watching Ghana vs. Paraguay. The stadium is huge, and the only people in the stands appear to be security guards standing by the exits.

5. This Sunday happened to be an important church day in Greece
the equivalent of the Feast of the Assumption. So most Greeks were home with their families.
