Lost in Translation
Okay....what is it that he whispers in her ear at the end? How really does the movie end? Did I miss something?

1. There are a few different thoughts on this.
Most people think he says "Tell your husband you love him," or something to that effect.

Sofia Coppola insists that it's something that remains secret, that it's between Bob and Charlotte what was said. That's the explanation I like the best. :D

3. You probably didn't miss anything
I personally did not like the movie.... first it took us like 10 minutes to realize that the movie had started (we were watching it on DVD) and that it was not a trailer for a movie or a soundtrack.... and we didn't turn the movie off because we thought well there has to be something and sometime that will get the movie going... and we waited and waited... and then by that time we thought well we've already invested 45 minutes into watching the movie and it's kind of a waste to just turn the movie off... one of the most horrible movie watching experiences I have ever had!

(just my personal opinion.... I know that there are those who liked it)

What was said in 1 hour+ could have been said in 5 minutes.

4. "People actually paid money to watch this."
Eh, just fuckin' with ya. I actually liked the film (but it wasn't "all that" as the kids say).

6. I Don't Know, Either
and it's perfect that the words are secret. It really reinforces the whole theme of a secret personal bond in the midst of an alien environment.

And I am a staunch defender of this movie. I thought it was wonderful. Maybe it helps being a fan of strangenes and isolation.

8. Exactly.
The notion that an aside might be too personal even for the viewer might chafe some, but I completely loved it.

I also think the greater point is that the connection they shared couldn't be summed up in a single sentence anyway, so whatever he said is, ultimately, just that.

And Marcellus Wallace's briefcase held his soul, hence the bandaid on the back of his neck where it was drawn out. Just my guess.

9. Thanks for all your responses. Guess I'm not a fan of movies not
being clear about the end. My choice of what he says: "Let's meet here in one year and see how we feel. I'll call ya. Really."

There, now. I feel better.

No, I didn't think the movie was great, or even good. It was interesting. But I'm not a big fan of people who don't say what's on their minds & just give long looks instead, which is what the characters in this movie were like. The actors were great, though.

Thanks for all your responses! I thought I had missed something important.

11. I have a question...
....what was that thing that the Japanese bartender was shooting at them when they were running away from the bar. It looked like some kind of blue laser gun. Was that a taser or something?
