Silly rant about June Cleaver

If you've read my ravings on this previously, I apologize. Go ahead and hide this thread.

I just came back from a thread in GD that was once again, in my opinion, misrepresenting the symbolism of June Cleaver.

June Cleaver is a Goddess. If you pay attention to the show, June Cleaver is an amazing, strong, self-assured woman. She frequently calls Ward onto the carpet for his mistakes. He listens to and values her advice and direction. He NEVER bosses her around! He would not dare!

She does the housework in smashing outfits and jewelry because she RESPECTS herself!! We ALL have toilets to scrub, laundry to wash, carpets to vaccuum, etc. She CHOOSES NOT to be a drudge, but to do things with style and panache! Is it realistic? Maybe not, but I find that I frequently wear nice jewelry while doing housework. Wearing my pearls puts a little spring in my step as I push the Hoover around.

She was the original MILF, and she KNEW it! (And so did Eddie Haskell).

June Cleaver is a powerful icon of feminism. Yes I said feminism. Anyone who pays attention to Leave It To Beaver would have to agree, I would think.

Okay, I'm ready for the flames!!!

1. No flames from me.
And I have pearls, too.

The repukes hijacked my religion, but they are NOT getting MY PEARLS!

3. It was a little unrealistic -
but not as bad as Ozzie and Harriet. At least Ward had a job.

4. You know I never really thought about this, but I think you are right
She was a feminist when there wasn't even a word for it. She didn't have a career, but how many women did in the 1950's and early 60's. June was the boss and she ran her home well.

People have a tendency to judge history with a current mindset. I had an english teacher who always told us not to judge literature with a late 20th century mindset but instead put ourselves back in time.

In a time where popular magazines published how to keep your husband happy articles by being seen and not heard. June's style, intelligence and beauty commanded respect from her husband and sons!

7. The "original MILF"? Maybe by the character Eddie Haskell.
The original MILF is a goddess, that's a given-but Mrs. Cleaver:shrug:
she ain't imho.

8. Well, I guess it's a matter of personal taste
June Cleaver may not do "it" for you. That's understandable.

The point I was trying to make was that her self-assured confidence and gracious manners made her extremely attractive even though she wasn't maybe what people would describe as strikingly beautiful.

12. "Ward, I'm worried about the Beaver!"
Most unintentionally funny double-entendre in television history.
