3. Family is BIG in the Chinese community...
I'm not Chinese, but did live there for a few months and did a bit of research......

In China, boy-girl relationships are treated VERY seriously. A couple will go out for over a year and only just start holding hands at the end of that year. A bit later and they may get into kissing....Bear in mind that this is Shanghai, not rural China, and although there are always exceptions the general rule seemed to be that you don't start seeing someone unless you have serious intentions.

Having said that, it's sometimes the case that family or friends will ask you to call them by nicknames - we met a younger guy who asked us to call him "Younger Brother", in Chinese, so the girl may just be being friendly.

But, IMHO, it sounds like you're involved in a Chinese family with traditional values, and who may view any relationship with their daughter as serious potential for marriage..........Don't necessarily get TOO scared - although guys don't generally start a relationship with marriage in mind as the ultimate goal, you've got to figure that you wouldn't start a relationship with someone you didn't like, so you may end up in the same place anyway.

Talk to your girlfriend about this and find out what the score is, both with her and her family....better to do it earlier than later!
