Help me counter her "INFO"
Here it is:
There are two words that beyond all else is the primary reason
for re-electing Bush. Those two words are: President Kerry.
<shudders>
"Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice,
moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."
-Barry Goldwater

I know you're disgusted! So am I!!!! Now help me.

1. Barry Goldwater would be considered a moderate today
Edited on Sat Aug-07-04 07:29 AM by RatTerrier
Back in '64, he was the epitome of far-right conservatism. This was the shakiest time of the Cold War. People were scared that Goldwater would go nuts and lead us to war.

We elected LBJ and went to war anyways.

Goldwater was a bit extreme for his time, but the only thing he really has in common with today's so-called 'conservatives' is a powerful defense. He was mostly Libertarian on everything else. He hated the fundamentalist movement (had some nasty things to say about Falwell), was pro-choice, and favored gays in the military. In short, he hated legislating bedroom issues. 'Small government' meant small government.

The only people who would be scared of a 'President Goldwater' today would, ironically, be Republicans.

As for 'President Kerry', that scares the hell out of them too. Not me, or anyone else here. I assume someone said this to you. Ask her why she's scared of Kerry. Also ask why she thinks Bush will be better. Throw the 'national security' stuff out first - history shows that changing presidents during wars usually have more positive effects. Let's hear some qualms.

2. Try the Skeleton Closet
Go to www.realchange.org and get some of the information there. The stuff on Clinton should make her happy, and you'll feel better with both "facts" and "sources" to back you up! Enjoy! Ida

3. Goldwater actually didn't originate that saying:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/daily/may98/goldwaterspeech.htm

I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.

The beauty of the very system we Republicans are pledged to restore and revitalize, the beauty of this Federal system of ours is in its reconciliation of diversity with unity. We must not see malice in honest differences of opinion, and no matter how great, so long as they are not inconsistent with the pledges we have given to each other in and through our Constitution. Our Republican cause is not to level out the world or make its people conform in computer regimented sameness. Our Republican cause is to free our people and light the way for liberty throughout the world.

Why is it no one ever quotes the REST of what he said?!?!

There's really nothing but a personal sentiment and a quote here. Nothing to counter factually.

6. Can't help but agree
Anyone who *shudders* at the thought of a President Kerry is just not living in a little place that I like to call "Planet Earth". Let it go.

7. Even Scarier - "President Quayle"
They say the Vice President is "one heartbeat away from teh Presidency". Dan Quayle is one heartbeat away from a brain wave.

10. Don't pick on Quayle. He's smarter than Bush.
He is smarter than either Bush.

Okay, prone to tripping over his tongue, can't spell, and not exactly endowed with mass quantities of common sense, but he is an intelligent man.

He is not smart enough to be a Democrat, but he's one of the sharper Republicans out there.

11. There is no real counter
Here's the thing: anyone that would look at Bush's record, look at the last 4 years this country has been going through, look at the continual flow of scandals and lies from the WH, and then say that Kerry would destroy the country is either 1) stupid, 2) a fanatic, 3) personally making money off Bush's policies (i.e. war profiteer), 4) blatantly evil, or 5) schizophrenic.
If we purposely elected a candidate to singlehandedly destroy all affectations of equality in this country, chances are they wouldn't have gotten as much done to do so as Bush. It is therefore ridiculous to say that ANYONE, any person on earth who is not active in the bush administration, could do worse. I would make a better president than Bush. So would you. So would anyone you see on the street, most likely. So would a naked mole rat, or a yak, or a badger.
IMHO
