there will be Senate and Congressional races to work on. Besides, we can be on "Bush watch" once he is unemployed :-) .

12. Second that.
We are not gonna let the Kerry/Edwards Administration fight the Newt-niks alone. They are not gonna cripple the new administration like they tried with Clinton.

We will be here, working to protect Truth, Justice and the American Way, cuz the neocons are not gonna give up until the last hateful one of them draws their last stinking breath in a bitter old age.

They'll regroup and come back with a vengeance. Our work begins on January 21, 2005.

20. Still plenty of work to be done...
There's house and senate seats to worry about in 2006, There will still be an unbelelivable amount of corporate mendia bullshit to fight against, and we also need to band together to provide support and "encoragement" to our elected democrats from the left...

Plenty of reasons for DU to remain bustling and busy...

21. What, you think the job's gonna get easier?
If (and I am doing what I can) Kerry wins, especially in a landslide, what makes you think that the media is just going to start kissing up to him?

I forsee a Kerry win as just the first victory in a long, hard-fought out-and-out war.

It wouldn't surprise me to see armed citizenry trying to keep Kerry from evicting W.

I swear, if Gore had been installed as Pres instead of W, we wouldn't have had 9/11/2001 happen. The rest of the world would be watching as the media and the Religious Right and the Repukes would have been conducting a civil war armed conflict. Osama would have been sitting back chuckling at what W had "accomplished".

24. SO many things will still need attention
Fair trade

Corporate controlled media

skyrocketing CEO salaries/shrinking middle class

marijuana prohibition

American imperialism

abortion

gay rights

getting us the hell out of Iraq

Kerry will not be capable of fixing everything, and on some of those issues he might not even want to.

26. Don't worry. When Kerry wins, our work will really only have begun.
We not only have to buttress and protect his victory (Class Warrior - our "MEME MEMO" person, has suggested that we all be rawther forceful in "reminding" the Bad Guys that they've LOST, that it's a MANDATE, and - heck - EVEN A LANDSLIDE. (YES, I realize it may not be a landslide (unless it's an Electoral College landslide) but since their twerp went swaggering around all over Washington making like he had a mandate when he hadn't even won the popular vote, I'd say all's fair in love and war (and voting), and we thus have clearance to smash it back in their faces.

We HAVE to keep Kerry (and all other Dems - zell miller'll be GONE anyway - cheney him!) protected. Mainly since he and the Dems will have SO MUCH WORK TO DO to repair the damage the bushies have done. There is so obscenely much wreckage that has to be cleared away. Our international reputation has to be rehabilitated. Our nearly-destroyed former relationships with our allies have to be repaired and restored. And all those legislative steps backward HAVE to be reversed. The more of a juggernaut we can help generate, to capitalize on the momentum we'll get from A) a Kerry win and - EVEN MORE IMPORTANT - B) a republi-CON LOSS and subsequent demoralization, the better. Repeat - DEMORALIZATION. It will be important to watch like hawks for opportunities - when they're off licking their wounds and sobbing into their beer and crying on limbaugh's shoulders and whining to their cronies about their stolen birthright - to get a few things taken care of swiftly and decisively.

That means it is ESSENTIAL to keep the republi-CONS securely OFF THEIR MARK, OFF THEIR GAME, OFF THEIR BALANCE. Such a victory WILL throw them into some disarray, in any event. Many of them will be in shock. (So will much of the media, mark my words.) THIS SHOULD BE THOROUGHLY EXPLOITED!!!!

Perhaps some of us might even consider ways to encourage the roiling discord that's bubbling through their party even now. On MSNBC the other night, during the Dem Convention coverage, Pat Buchanan said that - win OR lose - the republi-CON party would be in turmoil after the election, because there's such a schism in there already - moderates and other relatively reasonable thinkers feel completely disenfranchised and virtually homeless, because the whole damned party's been hijacked by the "unholy alliance" of religious whackos and the neocons. These are the folks who are complaining more than ever now about how their party has abandoned what they feel it means to be a true Republican (note - I said Republican here, not republi-CON) - like balancing budgets and not spending like drunken sailors and not ballooning the size of the government bureaucracy and keeping big intrusive government off our backs and out of our lives. These are the people you'd find at sites like Conservatives Against bush (I think that's the name of it). We have a number of them HERE, among US now, folks whose beliefs are really quite honorable and supportable, who believe in working together as ladies and gentlemen who share the same basic goals and love of America that WE DEMS do, who acknowledge and honor (and are NOT threatened by) the fact that people CAN disagree but still do business together, and who don't believe in the "Scorched Earth" tactics of the newt gingriches and tom delays who've given them all a horribly bad name. These are folks who've already defected out of sheer frustration and disgust. Whatever we can do to encourage such a schism would be a good thing.

We also will have to keep Kerry honest. Hold him to his word. Stay on his ass about Iraq til we get our troops OUT OF THERE, PERIOD. We have to stay on his ass about things like openness in government, opening up all those sneaky, shitty, secret things that people like cheney hid from us, and all those papers that bush had locked away, and bring 'em out into the open to see WHAT WE TAXPAYERS GOT FOR OUR MONEY. It was all done IN OUR NAME, in the first place. We have to stay on his ass about the FCC, and DO SOMETHING to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine or something like it, to bring TRUE, GENUINE fairness and balance back to the airwaves, so some rich, reactionary thug like rupert murdoch can't dominate OUR media and set our agenda for us. We have to stay on his ass about seeking JUSTICE for all this, and holding the bushies accountable. Perhaps even a whole new examination of 9/11, to get some REAL answers. THIS WILL ONLY COME WITH LARGE, VOCAL PUBLIC SUPPORT. ESPECIALLY if we're busy planting the post-election MEMES of LANDSLIDE!!! and MANDATE!!!

AND - we have to keep working on the media. We have to KEEP being a thorn in their sides. DEMAND that they be fair to Kerry in the same way that they gave bush a honeymoon that started BEFORE the 2000 election and hasn't fully subsided even to this very moment.

So... I hope a lot of people will stick around. There will be a LOT of work to be done.
