My wife is painting the room while I sit on my butt reading DU...
She just screamed up at me, "You'd better not be sitting on your butt reading DU while I'm painting this room!"

You see - I hate painting. I'll do anything, but I hate painting. She knows this. I'm a good guy, really, but I just hate painting.

So, while she is working her butt off painting, give me some nice things to say to her, or words of wisdom from DUers. I'm sure if I can show that my time is not being wasted by sitting here, then I can get a pass. I'll even attribute each comment to Ms. Stuckinthebush to the poster.

Thanks for your help.

2. my suggestion
Say just what you said above: that you're a great guy but you hate painting. Also, do something in lieu of painting, like clean out a section of the garage. Whatever it is, do it first thing in the morning.

4. Tomorrow is her morning to get up with the kids
We trade off each weekend morning. I'll get Saturday, she gets Sunday - then the other one gets to sleep until 8:00. Then the next weekend we flip it.

Maybe I should take her morning tomorrow, huh?

11. Geee... ya think?
Uhm, I'd say so... as another Mrs. who also has to do the painting!!! Admire her color choice and the way the paint goes on without blotches and how cute she looks with that dab on her nose and gush and gush... and get up with the kids in the morning!

3. "Paint the house, Daniel-san!"
Side to side... big boards, left hand; small boards, right hand...

WAY behind her...
Also, Since you are on a highly classified project here tonight at DU, we all give her the deepest respect for what she's doing to help
this extremely secret plan.

9. I'd suggest avoiding the old
"Those overalls make your butt look big" line.

That would be bad.

staying on top of today's political news is very important too...moreso if done in a comfy chair!

12. Mrs. t. painted the whole interior solo.
Mainly because we have very different ways of approaching the job.

I spend an hour or two in prep. Dropcloths, masking, removing switch and outlet plates, light fixtures. Getting paint thinner or soapy water and rags ready for wiping up runs, overpaints, and spills. Set up a brush and roller cleaning area.
Now I'm ready to paint.

She opens a can of paint and starts in. No dropcloths and very little masking. Usually around the switch and outlet plates she doesn't remove. I warn about messes and spills. She says my way takes too long. "If yer gonna paint, PAINT! GETOUTATHEWAY and let me just paint!"

Trouble is, she's very meticulous with a rock-steady hand. Her way works fine for her.
I getoutatheway and let her paint.
Looks real nice.
;-)

14. Well, Ms. Stuck really likes to paint
She would much rather do it and have me out of the way. The funny thing is that while she does it without a drop cloth and keeps the floor and furniture spotless, she always comes away covered in paint.

17. My husband is putting in a new shower stall while I sit on my butt here...
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 11:04 AM by Nay
but I don't feel bad because it's usually the other way around. He sits on his butt while I do all the daily cooking and cleaning and grocery shopping.

Even so, I'm not going to go upstairs and say, "Gee, I'm not so sure I like the pattern to that tileboard you just cemented to the wall."

I'm not a freakin' MORON.

18. You need to cook her dinner
My wife did all of our interior painting.

Actually, she likes doing stuff like that - keeps her mind off her day job

I cook healthy and delicioud dinners for her. She likes that.

20. I do all of the cooking anyway...
She cleans the dishes. Besides painting, I hate cleaning dishes. She loves to clean dishes. Something about having closure at the end of the pile. And, she hates to cook. We really have a good system here.

So, I'll give her a backrub. She likes backrubs.

By the way, I don't like the color she is painting, but I'll be damned if I say anything!
