Watch out Kerry and Bush! The Savage Dragon is running for President!
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 09:58 AM by khephra
(I hope this hasn't been posted.)

"Ronald Winston Urass is a wealthy man and his wealth is the key ingredient needed for a successful run for the White House. But this isn't at simple as you might think. Dragon himself has no strong political aspirations. He's literally thrust into the spotlight because the will of the American public," says the Image publisher. "It'll be a campaign, like none ever waged. A real grassroots effort. In actuality, neither Dragon or Urass will actually be on any ballots and that they're depending entirely on people writing them in. Urass spends BILLIONS in ads and appears EVERYWHERE in an effort to drum up support for this grassroots campaign."

"When it's revealed that Bush has been replaced by an Imposter (in issue #119) things REALLY take off for Dragon. People don't trust their leaders. They don't know what's real and what isn't. They don't know who to believe in and who to trust."

The election storyline will last beyond the current political season, with lingering ramifications affecting the future of the book, as well.

1. You should check out "Ex Machina".
It's about a guy in NYC that gets super-powers and then gets elected mayor because he thwarted one of the planes on 9/11. If you like more realstic super-hero stories like "Watchmen" then you'd probably enjoy this. Even though the hero isn't green with a giant fin on his head.

2. I missed the first two issues
But I plan on getting the TPB when it comes out.

3. Do you read "Y: The Last Man"?
It's written by the same guy, so it takes the same real-world approach to outlandish events. And he's obviously quite liberal...

4. I tried it
I still haven't decided if it's a title for me. I'm an old-Vertigo fan, and I've enjoyed a lot of Vaughan's past work, so I'm willing to try more than one TPB to get a feel for it. I lost my job recently and had to go to reading TPBs for the near future, so I'm pretty much only getting Alan Moore, Ellis and Morrison books in the monthly form--and even then I missed getting "Seaguy".

5. I really dig "Y", because it reminds me of "Preacher"
which is one of my favorite works of fiction ever, in any medium. The similarities are very intentional, as Vaughan sings the praises of Garth Ennis every chance he gets.

6. "Preacher" and "Hitman" were two of the best comics of the 90's
Too bad Ennis has been spending so much time doing "The Punisher", one of the few characters that I actually have a extreme distaste for reading, no matter who writes him.

7. I've never read "Hitman"
because stupid DC stopped publishing TPBs halfway through the series. Ennis is one of their more profitable writers and "Hitman" is one of his more popular books, but they still haven't reprinted the whole thing. Bleedin' gits.

8. I agree...

I was an idiot and got rid of my issues because DC is usually great with completing a run on their "top author" books. I did the same thing with the Starman and regret that move too.

Oh well, at least they're starting to do Starman again, so maybe there's hope for a complete Hitman run someday. DC is also doing good in my eyes in reprinting Veitch's Swamp Thing and Morrison's Doom Patrol in the near future. Lets just hope we get complete runs of both those titles. Mark Millar's Swamp Thing run would also be great in TPB.

9. Mark Millar sucks.
The only thing of his I've read that isn't complete shit is "Superman: Red Son". I read his Ultimate Marvel stuff because I love those characters and the whole idea of that line, but his dialogue is just awful.

10. Millar's work on Swampy
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 12:02 PM by khephra
is the best stuff he's ever done. I'm not a fan of his Marvel work either, but on Swamp Thing he cooked.

He also had a bit of help from Grant Morrison, so it's no wonder really. I blame a lot of his recent work on loading up on too many projects at once. Millar's best work recently has been his "Wanted" mini.
