I've got the insomnia blues
Here's an important lesson: when you are on medication for sleep related issues, and you run out, and when you look at the bottle and realize you have no prescriptions left, and it's a Friday, you are not getting the magic sleepy-time tablets refill. Oh, sure, I took my Ambien...at 1:00, but I usually follow that up with the drug which is now not in my medicine cabinet (well, medicine basket). Now it's almost 2:45. Not sure what else to do but wait it out. Anyone else up?

a few years back I went through serious sleep issues - and I was ALWAYS a good sleeper. But I sorta had an emotional collapse and tried everything. Ambien did bupkis for me. Nada. Zip.

My doctor and I tried a bunch of things - the only thing that worked was Trazodone. I believe to this day it saved my life. I went 6 months without a good night's sleep. I'm back to normal now and haven't needed a pill to sleep in a couple years, but I thank Jeebus for Trazodone.

If you want, you can crawl up on the couch with me and VelmaD and watch some TV. I'm also mixing Black Russians. We could even put on a movie. I have a great DVD collection.

5. sorry to hear it..
we are a band of brothers, who've been through such stuff. I was a total fucking wreck. Every time I tossed in my sleep, I'd wake up and be reminded of my pain, and then be wide awake and sad. It was so unusual for me - I'd always been sensitive, but THIS kind of pain was unheard of.

What saved my life was discovering other people had been through such pain... and Trazodone.

i was on prozac and trazodone. the toss/turn/wake up deal was making me physicially ill. thankfully, two years later, i'm pretty much over it. there are some residual family issues, but things are much better. thank god for the drugs! better living through chemistry;)

new relationship now and i'm happier than i've been in years!

i have a work issue i'm dealing with right now and for some reason it has kept my mind too active to sleep! can't seem to shut it off. i might have to fire someone. i'm pretty sensitive too it seems. although this person is a class 'a' biotch, i take the situation seriously and wouldn't do it unless i really had to. insubordination doesn't sit well with me or the two top dogs above me. once they got wind of the sitch, well, let's just say i'm a tad uncomfortable. may have to fire the little demon seed just to get the good vibe back in the office. pity she was so stupid.

6. I'm not much of a drinker
Although booze would be a quick fix. Over the years I've lost interest in drinking, and now am content to have a beer every few months.

Trazadone didn't work for me. The dosage my doctor had me at caused sinus headaches, and anything less didn't make me sleepy.

Right now my combo is Ambien and a drug called Hydroxyzine Pamoate. That's the one that I didn't get refilled. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Sure, natural sleep is best, but I haven't been able to sleep naturally for years.

I watched a movie earlier tonight, Scarface, and am hoping now some music and reading will do the trick. I have Unisom but am reluctant to take it -- it always leaves me feeling loopy in the morning. Although, at this point, I guess I'm going to be loopy no matter what I do.

11. really?
I checked out Trazodone before I took it and never saw sinus headache as a side-effect.

But I *DID* find that the dosages vary wildly among individuals. The doc first prescribed 25mg. The pharmacist told me to break 'em in half and try that. 12.5 mg. It did nothing. I thought the drug was totally useless. Then, eventually, we got to 100mg and it was perfect. When I needed it, I took a pill. 20 minutes later, I was sound asleep. 8 or 9 hours later, I woke up with no grogginess. It was a life-saver.

14. All hail Trazodone!
Yes, kids, all check in for your daily meds update from flamingyouth...

I have always loved Trazodone as a sleep aid. I don't get too much of a hangover the next day from it (barring I take it early enough) and wow, does it ever knock you out. Added bonus: It's real cheap.:)

4. Sorry dude, know what you're going through
I'm on "seroquel" for depression, and it makes you sleep. Problem is, once you're on it, you can't sleep without it, no matter how tired you are, until it works itself completely out of your system (a few days). Anyway, if I run out, I'm screwed! Have to watch the sex line commercials on TV. Right now I'm waiting for the bastard medication to kick in so I can sleep.

7. here is why I am up
I work 6PM to 6AM Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, plus every other Saturday. I didn't work today, which means to get back on my schedule I need to stay up until around 09:00 in the morning so I can sleep and get up to go to work at 6PM.

9. I feel sorry for you people that need meds to sleep---
I'm awake because my sorry ass neighbor decided to have a party and a fire in his firepit around 3 AM. Our grand kids, and their parents, are visiting for the weekend, and are both quite young. Fortunately my daughter went over and asked them to tone it down, and it worked. If I went over, they would have wanted me to join the party. 3 AM is no friggin time to party up.

12. heheh
actually, 3:00am is the perfect time to party up, but it's a lousy time to disturb your neighbors.

You must be out here on the left coast... I'm in Santa Cruz, CA. Is your neighbor's party nearby? I'm sorta bored...
