1. One of the greats
I was lucky to see her Montreal at the jazz festival there a few years ago.

2. Lucky you!
It's amazing what she does with other people's songs. 'I Put a Spell on You' is playing now - the rendition is as genius as the songs writer, Screamin' Jay Hawkins!

3. I was indeed very lucky
She died way too young, I think. I wish I could have seen her again. One of my faves by her is her rendition of "Feeling Good," which they used on the "Six Feet Under" promos this season.:hi:

6. That sparked me into action!
My step-dad has been a fan of hers, like forever and I always loved 'My Baby Just Cares for Me' because of the 'Chanel No. 5' commercials back in the early 80's. Then she dies... it's one of those 'where the f*** was I?' kind of things - it happens with a lot of artists I get into.

7. devilgrrl
she's amazing! her genre-range is truly incredible.

i own the "tomato" collection, will have to break it out & listen today. "spell" is a gutsy, soul-tearing cut.

i believe i heard that she died recently, do you know if that's true?
