Anyone remember who sang "Switchin' to Glide"
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 06:44 PM by DODI
I can't think of the group. I have it on a homemade tape -- my best of the early 80's -- Clash, Dury, Robert Ellis Oral, Ramones, etc. Help!

2. The Kings
I Googled it. As I hummed the tune, of course. Now I'm cursed to be singing it for the rest of the night. Oh well, better go infect the rest of the family...

5. Remember it? Damn, every Friday, WNCX (98.5) in Cleveland
ohio plays it in their Friday Kickoff (5pm) - Bruce's "Born To Run", the Kings' "Switchin' to Glide", and Todd Rundgren's "Bang on the Drum".

I usually like to catch Switchin', get tired of "Bang on the Drum"

7. MMS - we should have seen it coming (Clear Channel Worldwide)
Mid 80s - two scandals:

Stuffing the ballot box for the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" poll

During an on-air interview with a local girl involved in a People (or similar) poll - essentially said "Rememeber our agreement, we buy xx magazines and vote for you, you buy xx Rolling Stones year end poll magazines and vote for us."

Early 90s, two other scandals:

Howard Stern (on WNCX) comes to town, one of the MMS engineer fall guys hacks through their signal cable with an axe, normally a federal offense (tampering with the airwaves) - the guy gets a slap on the wrist.

Again dealing with a Howard Stern issue, Scene has Stern on the cover. MMS "coincidentally" has a contest as to who can come to the station offices with the most copies of Scene freebie magazine. Not one to be found in the city. Scene has to do a rush job printing more to get them out, costing the freebie tons of advertising money.

Is it any wonder they are now part of a conglomerate intent on keeping an illegitimate officeholder in office?

8. From "The Kings Are Here!" LP.
Edited on Sat Aug-30-03 02:34 PM by CanuckAmok
I have a copy. Along with a copy of their latest LP:

"Sorry, who are the Kings, and where are they now?" (j/k).

Their second and final LP was called Amazon Beach, and was pretty forgetable.

on edit= I can't imagine posting this without including this memorable Kings lyric:

"...Hey little Donna,
Still wanna...?
You said to call you up when I was in Tarana"
(that's Toronto, but nothing rhymes with Toronto)
