Who would be your DU cabinet nominees???
There was a thread recently posted asking the question "Would anyone here accept Shrub's job right now?" Well, I answered in the affirmative and said the first thing I would do is fire the cabinet.

Having accepted the job and fired the cabinet I need to find replacements and I'd like to du it with DUers!! I need some help from the veterans here, any suggestions??

Will Pitt - Secretary of State??

HawkerHurricane - Secretary of Defense??

Bev Harris - Homeland Security??

DemActivist - Justice??

NSMA - Energy??

I am sure I have left out many names or you may have some better suggestions. Help me out here and have some fun with it. Might be a good way for a relative newbie like myself to get to know you guys better. Here's a link to show all the posts I need to fill: http://www.politics1.com/cabinet.htm

They will be in good hands!! Are you really the only Slovene?? I imagine there will be a fight for The Auld Sod though. After my second term I'd have to clone myself for my ambassadorships seeing as how I am a mutt.

and the workers memorial WCTV one of my other ideas. Repeal Taft Hartley and the others that take jobs away from american workers. You know whats interesting about that Ive been talking about that for a while WCTV and you know who came out in favor of it, yep Kucinich. One of my first acts is giving rich republicans a labor simulation and seeing then if they think they are lazy.

I need you in Labor until we get all this shit cleaned up, way too much work to do and evil to undo. You can do the ambassadorship thing when your work is done and you're ready to kick back to days filled with hosting visiting dignitaries.

After your two terms in the oval office, that is.

36. My first act as SecDef:
Restore the original GI bill to all veterans. Let those who served get a education, and watch the country improve by leaps and bounds.

Second would be to do something about gays in the service. How about 'it's none of the military's dang business who you sleep with as long as you respect the chain of command and sexual harrassment laws'?

Can you hold down two posts?? There is a separate Veterans department. On second thought, straightening out that mess will be more than a full time job. The way this admin had treated our veterans should be a national shame, the only group they have shit on worse are the active men and women serving.

Once you get access to the files and archives, pass along all the dirt to VermontDem in DoJ, will ya. I am not a vengeful person but some things are just right, ya know?

And as SecDef, your load will be tall but I won't be sending you on any foreign adventures just to flex our muscles. You will be able to concentrate on the DEFENSE portion, not offense and make sure our troops are well equipped, well fed, well housed and leave our service with a future. Let's use the cash for our prime asset, our people rather than fattening the wallets of the big shots in the industrial military complex.

How about you Darranar, name your post. For bringing the lack of a Sec't of Peace to my attention you get your choice. Chief of Staff is still open and needs an idea man/woman.

82. I saw this on a thread in GD earlier today
it's from baghdad burning, the blog written by the 24 year old iraqi woman. kick these guy's asses too, please!!!:grr:

http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/

snip---------

Yesterday, I read how it was going to take up to $90 billion to rebuild Iraq. Bremer was shooting out numbers about how much it was going to cost to replace buildings and bridges and electricity, etc.

Listen to this little anecdote. One of my cousins works in a prominent engineering company in Baghdad- we’ll call the company H. This company is well-known for designing and building bridges all over Iraq. My cousin, a structural engineer, is a bridge freak. He spends hours talking about pillars and trusses and steel structures to anyone who’ll listen.

As May was drawing to a close, his manager told him that someone from the CPA wanted the company to estimate the building costs of replacing the New Diyala Bridge on the South East end of Baghdad. He got his team together, they went out and assessed the damage, decided it wasn’t too extensive, but it would be costly. They did the necessary tests and analyses (mumblings about soil composition and water depth, expansion joints and girders) and came up with a number they tentatively put forward- $300,000. This included new plans and designs, raw materials (quite cheap in Iraq), labor, contractors, travel expenses, etc.

Let’s pretend my cousin is a dolt. Let’s pretend he hasn’t been working with bridges for over 17 years. Let’s pretend he didn’t work on replacing at least 20 of the 133 bridges damaged during the first Gulf War. Let’s pretend he’s wrong and the cost of rebuilding this bridge is four times the number they estimated- let’s pretend it will actually cost $1,200,000. Let’s just use our imagination.

A week later, the New Diyala Bridge contract was given to an American company. This particular company estimated the cost of rebuilding the bridge would be around- brace yourselves- $50,000,000 !!
