Pet owners - need help urgently! Re: dog pee on carpet
Just had my Brother over last night to the new pad for dinner last night. Of course his buddy Arlo came by. Just discovered a puddle on my carpet in the office. It got to sit there for 24 hours. What the hell do I do? Its damn stinky!

1. Go to Your Local Pet Store
They'll have products for taking out the stain and odor.

2. Arlo, huh?
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 08:55 PM by union_maid
Anyone who names his dog Arlo is OK by me. Unless Arlo is a bulldog or has some sort of urinary disorder, and enzyme solution will work. Get thee to a pet supply place and try to get Nature's Miracle. It's expensive but works best of the ones I've tried. Follow the instructions exactly. It takes time to work and if the pee's been there a while sometime it takes multiple applications.

Edited to add..you might ask your brother to pay for the stuff. It is a bit pricey, but worth it.

4. Borax.
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 08:56 PM by silverweb
If you make a paste of borax (found in your grocery store with other laundry products) and water, rub that into the carpet and let it dry, then vacuum, it should eliminate both stain and odor. It works with cat pee, that's for sure!

Edited for spelling.

10. you mean Borax? like Rayguns used to sell on Death Valley Days?
i love that stuff, my dermatologist told me to use it as a face soap to clear up my adult acne (not that the drug use had any thing to do with my bad skin in those days)

i still use it daily, Borax rocks!

25. I don't know about Death Valley Days...
...but borax is a wonderful, useful thing to have on hand. I use it routinely in the laundry and for carpet stains, etc. Knowing it's natural and not another toxic petrochemical is also nice.

:D

wet vac is best if you've got it.

go to home depot, in cleaner aisle look for a spray bottle marked "ZEP pet spotter" it's an enzymic cleaner that breaks down the proteins in the urine. let soak for @ least 10-20 minutes, then blot or vac dry.

repeat if necessary.

this is guarenteed for most organic odors/stains, including blood & feces.

if it's a visible area, test cleaner elsewhere 1st. they say it can bleach out carpet somewhat, but i've never seen it happen, & i use it by the gallon.

8. I use nature's miracle, to be had at most pet stores. It has enzymes
that get in there and remove the smell down to the nap.

16. nature's miracle..
like Redman's Potty Fresh, it uses enzymes and shit! Seriously, this stuff works great, and it deters the animal from pissing in that spot again. You can find it at the pet store.

19. Not after a while
And it's not strong anyway. The thing to remember with all the enzyme solutions is that they don't work instantly and sometimes it takes more than one time to get rid of everything. Any of them that's recommended will probably work. I once couldn't find Nature's Miracle and got something that smelled worse than the pee, but as long as someone who's used a product says it's good, it probably is.

21. it has a light fragrance..
but not really enough to mask the odor, per se. I bought it when a feral cat decided he was going to pee in the hood vents of my truck. As soon as I turned on the air.. I nearly gagged. I sprayed a liberal amount in the hood vents, and a day or so later, the odor was pretty much gone. It also deterred the little bastard from coming back and doing it again. I've since loaned out my bottle to several friends who have had pet accidents, and they rave about it.

28. It has a fresh smell. That's about as good as I can call it. I have five
dachshunds with pee-pee "issues" and we keep it in gallon containers. It's saved us for fifteen years.

18. Oxyclean gets my vote
Same thing happened to me - new carpet - friend's dog visiting - peed on an antigua chair that cost $700 to be recovered a month previous - Oxyclean took the stain and the odor out of the chair and the carpet.

26. Make sure you get it all out, or Arlo will re-christen it
every chance he gets..

If it's near an edge, and you can lift it up from the pad, you might be able to clean that too, and then refasten it.,.

A black man who looks like Morgan Freeman, mopping a floor in a seemingly empty building. He will know how to train Arlo for future visits, and there are other interesting benefits for you too!
