"Fake" foreign films.
Okay, a writer friend of mine is trying to come up with other films other than "Chocolat" which we call "Fake" foreign films. I.E. they're 100% artificial confections which are trying really hard to have the taste of a "foreign" film.

I'm sure there are others besides "Chocolat" but I'm having trouble thinking of any off the top of my head. So I turn to DU!

2. Speaking of Chocolat
I absolutely LOVED the book, and absolutely HATED the movie. The movie killed the whole point of the book. If you haven't read it, do so, and I think you'll agree.

3. I felt that about Y Tu Mama Tambien
It is a very good film no doubt, but it seemed designed for an American audience rather than a Mexican one. -ll

6. Le Divorce
I actually found it pleasant enough to watch, but it really tried to convince you that it was a foreign film. It got a little schizophrenic at times, trying to be box office and foreign.

7. The British dossier on Iraqi WMDs.
Not a film itself, no; but it's getting a bit of screen time now.

8. Not for nothing but in the big scheme of American Pop Culture...

I would rather someone watch Chocolat than American Pie 3. Honestly. I'm not going to claim to like the "fake" foreign films you talk about, or that I can't appreciate a dumb idiotic comedy. But I honestly don't see any harm in a movie aspiring to be something classy and foreign as oppossed to being the 8,000,000,000th movie to rip off the same dumb animal house jokes for the 90 millionth time.

I know what you are saying but I'd rather people be encouraged to watch something that might actually give their attention spans some excercise

10. Shakespeare In Love
Ya know there really aren't that many talented british actors out there who could play Gwenyth's role...

Same goes for:
Tom Cruise - Far & Away
Chris O'Donnell - Circle of Friends

all "Foreign" films (filmed overseas and/or foreign director) with the token American actor doing a bad accent.

12. The Ring
When I saw the boy with the umbrella looking up at his absent father in the rain I thought,"yep, this must be a remake of a japanese original." Not that it's not a good movie.
