Why put anyone on ignore?
I don't get it.As far as I know I'm not on that list, but why not hear everybody out? I don't care if you believe in the second coming of Strom I would like to hear what you have to say.

1. How long you been here?
everyone has their limits. I reached mine after two years yesterday. I never used the feature, but then I realized that some people here weren't interested in debate but mudslinging.

And once again, I admit, I wasn't clean on that part either.

5. I've been here only a few months
and I try to not lock horns with anyone. When I post or reply to something that actually has to do with politics things get unpleasant, and I'm just going to go with getting an online chess game started for now.

2. The only time I ever put anyone on ignore is when
sparring with them further may lead me to say something that may get my happy ass banned. Even then it is a temporary measure.

16. Yeah. I remember once when a long time poster got real mad
and started a thread called "Irish-americans, is it worth it" out of protest to anti-israeli sentiment. The poster kept spouting off about "potato eating drunks" until tombstoned. The initial post even said that they'd had enough and were going out in flames.

3. I have only ever put ONE person on ignore
and it was not because I did not like that person. It was that after thousands of their posts, I thought my head would explode if I ever saw another one :(

It was Me ...not them ...:)

6. Been here one year...
Have never put anyone on ignore. Put on ignore tonight for the first time to my knowledge (only reason I know is the person took the time to tell me)...

Its what you do when, either

A. Some asshole has worked your LAST GOOD NERVE

or

2. When you're afraid to defend your ideological leaning, whether left, center, or right.

8. I've not done it but I understand why people do.
There are some people on DU who will make repeated and increasingly emotional dogmatic statements rather than having a reasoned, logical, discussion.

I know that we all have opinions, but I sometimes find myself getting pulled into a protracted slanging match with someone who won't actually discuss the point. I get more and more frustrated and angry, when in reality it would be better to just walk away. If I didn't have the self-control to walk away then I might have to use IGNORE to guard my sanity.

It happens a lot in the Guns discussion, Israel/Palestine, religious discussions. Sometimes people are just so emotionally involved that they can only shout their beliefs, and as someone who loves a good argument (in the true sense of the word) it's draining when logic and politeness go out of the window.

P.

12. I agree with the I/P
only type of people I've had a problem with. I've been hit with accusations of being anti-sematic, pro-terrorism, and have had words blatantly placed in my mouth (and then warned for calling the person pretentious).

I still didn't ignore him, the first time in months I've been harassed like that on this board, and have never run back into him.

20. Because some people are just assholes
Seriously, almost everyone I've ever put on ignore has been banned soon afterwards, so I probably didn't need to bother. However, it keeps me from getting angry and posting something that will just get deleted and/or something that just pleases an attention-craving freep. Once I calm back down from getting in a fight with a fool, I remove the ignore and just skip the idjit's posts.

As I said, those posters usually disappear, anyway....
