Have you ever woken up and found a bat in your house...
and then realized that you don't have a pet bat? Seriously, it's happened thrice to me. (I love that word... thrice)

6. Yes
One hovered in our bedroom, brushing my face. My husband got it out of the house via a towel and the bottom of a 2 liter soda bottle.

If you'd like to keep them away without hurting them, I'd suggest you get some Bat Skat from Dr. T's (www.repell.com). Or use moth balls. They don't like the smell, and will leave the area. (Yep, I work for a pest control company)

8. One appeared in my apartment once...
While my roommate and I were sharing a bottle of wine. I think the little bugger wanted a taste. About a year before that, one got in my roommate's bedroom while she was asleep. She said she just laid really still and it eventually went away -- to where, I don't know.

9. I woke up to the sound
of one of my dining room chairs being knocked over. My husband was out of town so I was pretty nervous. I went downstairs and found my teenage son with a dead bat. He'd heard something downstairs and went down to investigate with his BB gun. He shot the bat. My daughter and I were not thrilled with this scenario. Plus, bats are protected. He should have caught the bat and ushered it outside.

11. N Y State Dept of Health
Says if a bat is found in a room where people are sleeping it must be captured and given to state for rabies test; unless the people involved are sure they did not have contact with the bat.

I thought it was a law in NY State, but perhaps not.
