Whoo hoooo ...vinyl comeback
The local news is going to have a story on a possible comeback for vinyl albums. I can maybe shed a few of the 1000 plus I have.
Anyone still collect vinyl records?

1. I've got about 40 old ones but no turntable...most are
scratched up, too. I wouldn't buy any today....don't work well in cars, you know?

6. I probably have 1500 LPs and a couple hundred 45s.
The "comeback" started in the early-'90s, though. Vinyl is back in full force. No, records are not as prevalent as CDs or MP3s -- but you will find more records in the stores than cassettes these days.

8. I have ASS-TONS of vinyl.
A lot of the music I'm into still comes out on vinyl, so in addition to the huge backlog of old stuff, I have plenty of new releases on vinyl. It's a far superior-sounding format so long as you have a decent turntable and the good sense to take proper care of your records.

The only downside to vinyl is when I'm out DJing somewhere and some drunken ass thinks it's the height of comedy to jump really hard so as to make a record skip. Such persons should be confined.

So johnnie, when you decide to sell off the 1000+ records you have, would you consider posting a list here? I'll gladly have a look-see.

9. My closet is lined up with them...
When my needle broke on my old turntable in the late 80's I couldn't bear to get rid of them, so I've lugged them around all these years. My husband got me a turntable 2 years ago and I'm in heaven!

Old stuff I can't find on CD (and now don't need to): Flying Lizards, New York Dolls, The Zealots...

Just love the big album covers, taking the vinyl out of the sleeve just so...

10. Surprisingly, a lot comes out on cd...
...you just have to look for them. I found all the John Sebastian Cd's in a boxed set. I figured I would never get those.
But yeah...there was nothing like sitting around looking at all that artwork.

11. Truthfully, I'm lazy and to replace all my albums with CDs
would frankly cost too much!

Love to look at the Styx album itself! My introduction to holograms.

No, you can't buy the sticker OR the T-shirt. They come free with your dues to the Vinyl Preservation Society.

19. i am in the vinyl biz
...have a store with something close to 100,000 lp's, 45's and 78's. ironically, i started the store in 1993 thinking i'd have the last bit of vinyl and then become an independent cd paradise.

then vinyl comeback kicked in and cd's became a commodity. so 2 years ago i stopped messing with new cd's and now it's basically all vinyl. new, used and rare of all types.

still amazes me how many people love it like i do.

20. I went to college, and suddenly
all these bands I liked put out releases that were available mostly on seven inch. So I pretty much had to start getting vinyl.

I bought a turntable this summer and have started the painfully long process of assembling audio equipment, which my status as a volunteer makes difficult. But when I can, I buy an LP or a seven inch, and I actually like them a little more than CDs. They're easier to show off.
