Here's what I get for ignoring local news-- Isiah Thomas fired from Pacers
Edited on Thu Aug-28-03 02:47 PM by khephra
It appears that Rick Carlisle is the man next in line to take over as head coach. Bird said this is the guy he wants and Carisle is in Indianapolis today meeting with Bird and the Pacers about the job. Carlisle led Detroit to the Eastern Conference finals last year after being fired at the end of the season by the Pistons. Carlisle worked as an assistant under Bird during the Pacers’ run to the NBA finals in 2000.

1. It was the best move to make.
I like Zek, but Rick is better.

2. WOW! I missed that one, too!
I had forgotten that the Pistons fired Rick Carlisle--pretty stupid, considering what he did for them. Same goes for Isiah and getting the Pacers into the playoffs. x(

Undoubtedly, Larry Bird remembers Rick Carlisle from the days they were teammates on the Celtics. Wonder who will pick up Isiah? I'm sure SOMEBODY will!

Going to be interesting, also, to see who Bob Johnson chooses to be the first coach of the Charlotte Bobcats--though that decision is probably around 6-8 months away. Then, of course, there is the possibility that Michael Jordan could be the team's first General manager...:eyes:

B-)

3. Yeah, it even topped the daily weather drama !!
This state's news is PATHETIC !
Every day, the news opens with
"It's HOT!"
"It's COLD!"
"It's SUNNY!"
"It's RAINING!"
"It's NOT raining!"

... as if the planet will stop turning within the next 10 minutes and we should all cower in fear because the weather is....

ANYWAY, yes, the Thomas story actually ran before the daily weather drama yesterday ... as if there aren't soldiers dying in Iraq, and zillions of dollars of state and federal budget trauma more worthy of our attention....

:hi: Kef !

:hi:

I'm glad this happened. I've never liked Thomas personally.

I follow one team in one sport...you'd think I'd pay closer attention, wouldn't you?

4. Bird and Isiah were never good buddies.
Back during the late 80's when Bird won 3 MVPs, Isiah stated to the national press that if Bird were black he'd be "just another player".
That pissed Bird off big time. When the two met in the NBA semifinals Bird made a fantsic steal from Isiah as he was trying to inbound a pass for the winning hoop with 1 second left. Celts won by 1.
I'm not saying that this was the reason for Isiahs firing but I'm sure that it has a little bit to do with it.
