Are cellphones too small?
My new Sony Ericsson T616 is too damn small. It fits in my pocket nice, but my fingers are too big to dial. Anyone have the same problem with your phone? I'm 6'5 so i guess it's just me.

3. I agree; my wife keeps getting newer and smaller - I've kept
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 06:16 PM by elbayl
my old, bigger one for nearly four years now. I see no reason to get a new one. This old one has all my ph. nos in it, speaker phone, large keypad and display.

My 13 year old son even picked up the same exact model at a yard sale for $1.25 as a joke. But it is in perfect in condition so I'm keeping it as a backup and already have made use of the battery since my original one just went dead and won't recharge.

29. I'm still using my 1999 Nokia...
everyone thinks I'm walking around with my cordless phone from my house. The new phones are way too small, and I have small hands.

6. Boo dee deep
The fingers you have used to dial are too fat. If you would like to obtain a special dialing wand, please mash the keypad with your palm now.

I agree, they're too small. They also get crappy reception, the mouthpiece and earpiece are too small, ring tones are annoying, batteries don't last long enough, cellphone spam is getting out of control and the service plans are a complete rip off for light users. I hate my cellphone with a passion.

9. Yes - some are too small.
I have to actually go to the store and try a phone out before I select one. I have fat little fingers, and need a decent-sized key. :D

I think Lady Freedom and I compete for smallest hands at DU. We both go to the children's department to buy gloves. :D

edit: So the min, miniscule, micro phones don't bother me at all.

13. I saw a lady today trying to talk on a cell phone
A rather large lady with rather large hands.

It clearly wasn't working. She kept dropping the phone and she would have to alternatively hold it to her ear to hear, then hold it to her mouth to talk.

I'm an average sized woman and at times, I've acidentally cut people off with mine because it's too tiny that I didn't realize what I was doing. (Or I'm a total clutz which is probably it.)

21. won't do that unless you save "Layla" exactly as you sing it
so make her number's shortcut... LayLayLayLaLayla... oh, damn, then you can't listen to the kinks either.

well, you get the point, I gather.

23. Those crappy bar models are yes...
Get a nice flip phone from Samsung or something along those lines.

And for the people complaining about phones that have "too many features": they now have phones with 2 Megapixel camera (yes I know Mega pixels are not the be-all and end-all of a great digital camera), MP3 players, calendars, organizers and phones. Right now, they're not quite up to scratch of each one individually, but they will be soon. Are you telling me you'd rather carry around a seperate camera/mp3 player/pda/phone every day than just one unit that does everything quite well?

25. That is a lot of eggs in one basket.
And besides the battery can't keep up if you actually use all that stuff.

And Yeah, I want all that stuff separate. It doesn't belong in a phone. A phone is a communications device. Keep it to the communication functions.

My main camera is a good 4 meg, 10X model that can hold 180+ high quality pictures. What do I need with a built in fixed focus, point & shoot that would not allow me to take my cell phone into a growing number of places?

MP3? I don't need more noise to drown out your noise. When I listen to music, I don't want it to be a distraction from the world around me. I am comfortable with my thoughts in case peace and quiet should conspire to attack me.

And as for calendars & organizers, get a life. You are too busy.

27. Thanks for making assumptions about me...
You do know what they say about assumptions?

I too have a nice Canon 4 megapixel camera that is my primary image taking device when I am out with it. I usually don't carry it around with me everyday though. You might want to consider a bigger memory card, you could hold more pictures..:) Of course, it doesn't have the ability to send photos instantly to a friend's e-mail like I could do with a camera phone. Or to a news website during a demonstration. Or to another friend's phone when I see something that might be of interest to them.

Who says that listening to music on an MP3 player is merely to drown out your noise? While I'm not a fan of the MP3 format (or any compressed music format really, although I do admit to having an MD player) it is merely a precursor of what is to come. I happen to enjoy listening to music a lot.

And as for battery consumption, yes it definitely can keep up. I play games all the time on my phone (more than 2 hours a day on average), which sucks battery power down and I still get 4 days use out of either one of my batteries.

So now I have a phone that a) communicates, b) let's me enjoy listening to music c) allows me to take pictures thatI can send to people's e-mail accounts anywhere instantaneously (I'm sorry that you live in a country that doesn't allow you to take your camera into a growing number of places and d) can be used to browse the internet.

As for the calendar/organizer options, I rarely have call to use them, but perhaps others might? They do no harm to me, but are useful to others.

So I guess what I'm saying is that just because you can't find a use for these technologies, there definitely are people who can, and will.
I can't really accuse you of being a luddite, since you're using a computer. Shame that America doesn't keep up in mobile technology though.

Thanks for the crack about me getting a life. It was really appreciated coming from someone who knows not the first thing about me.

31. Well I've had my Samsung phone for two years...
i've dropped it on cement a few times, it's been rained on as well as getting used virtually every day since I bought it. Still works as well as the day I bought it.

OTOH, both my wife and my brother-in-law bought the same Nokia bar phone about a year ago, and my brother-in-law's gave up the ghost last month and my wife's is on the way.
