2. Je suis un peut de Canadien et Francais
My family patriarch helped to settle Montreal in the 1600s. Ever seen a place there named after "Urbain Beaudreau de Graveleines?" That's the dude.

Had many sons and daughters and multitudinous grandchildren, all of whom bred like rats. I, like most historically Quebecois folks, am related to most of the rest of the province through many cousins. In fact, reprehensor and I are convinced we have a common cousin somewhere.

Only his ancestors were doing the scalping, and mine were being scalped.

3. I should have plenty of family there.
That's where my ancestors first settled after leaving Normandie! :)

6. Bonjour! Bonjour!
I'll visit some day when I make my pilgrimage to this monument my brother told me about...

"In July 1981, on the occasion of a Grand Reunion, the Association of American Hamel’s unveiled in Sainte-Foy, Quebec, a monument dedicated to the two brothers who came from Auvremesnil, France. The monument is situated on a property once belonging to Charles Hamel I. We can see the inscription on the Rue Lavallee, between Melezes Road and Cherbourg Road, just north of Sainte-Foy Street. The inscription reads : Hommage to our Hamel Ancestors, Charles Hamel (1624-1715)and his wives Judith Auvray and Catherine Lemaistre. Jean Hamel (1634-1674) and his wife Marie Auvray. Their descendants recognize on this celebration of the assembly of the Hamels of America, Sainte-Foy, July 18 & 19, 1981. This monument is erected on property once belonging to our ancestor Charles Hamel.
In October of 1981, Mr. Jean Hamel, President of the Assoc. des Hamel from France, dedicated a second monument to the two brothers. The plaque was inaugurated in the church of Saint-Jacques, in Dieppe, France.
We estimate there to be well over 30,000 descendants in North America from the two Hamel brothers. Among the more noteable descendants, we can recognise:"

Then there's a list of names which doesn't include my own. :eyes:

4. It's also a big Latvian festival--officially St. John the Baptist Day, but
in reality, the old pagan Summer Solstice festival, conveniently moved to be observed in the traditional lively fashion but under the radar.
