They are cutting down my beautiful ivy!!
:-(

I wake up and find all the ivy covering the brownstone I live in completely gone! They are out there cutting it down! I go out onto my deck and say "Hey! What the heck is going on!?" "We have orders to cut it down. Sorry."

:-(

Is there a reason to not have ivy on your house? I was so happy when all the leaves came in, it looked so beautiful.

I'm really sad about this.

1. I don't think it's good for the bricks
We ripped off all the ivy growing on our house a long time ago.

they were just finishing up when I went upstairs.

4. Here at Harvard
they leave it on the building, but they cut it away from the windows.

6. Do you own the house or are you renting?
I guess if you are renting, you don't have much to say about it.

9. Sorry about it.
I guess the owner didn't appreciate the ivy.

8. Besides damaging the brick and mortar,
it can be an entry point for critters of the bug variety.

11. Indeed, GOPisEvil is correct. Our house in Houston was covered in ivy
We had to tear it all down because it was allowing termites an entry point. Nasty termiteses.

13. Plus that sticky stuff that attaches the ivy to the wall is a huge PITA!
Sometimes it has to be sanded off.

10. Ivy Cover
My son was hired to do this job once and the ivy had not been cut back for years. It was filled with bugs, old bird nests...bird crap and even snakes. He claimed it was the worst job he'd ever taken.

12. Sorry to hear about it. They did that to my last place, too, and said
that it was "to keep the apartments insect-free." I snottily suggested that they get rid of the grass in front of the place, too, but they failed to appreciate the subtle brilliance of my pissed-off sarcasm.

14. Although beautiful to look at, Ivy can cause structural damage to
a building. It not only can grow right into the brick and mortar, it gets under the roofing and drainage. It also is a favorite home for all kinds of critters. I recently saw a piece on the BBC about how Ivy is beginning to be removed off of buildings in Britain.
