Cool towns?
We've talked of cool cities. But what about cool towns?
My favourite are Nelson B.C. and Gabriola Island B.C.
Nelson is a cool little town in the Kootney's a DUer actually lives there. It's full of artists and stuff, the streets are PACKED during the day.

Gabriola is a neat Gulf Island where I live for about six weeks. Full of AMAZING musicians and artist...the bar bands are world class too.

1. I like Gulf Shores, AL on the fabulous Redneck Riviera
Though the Chamber of Commerce prefers "The Emerald Coast," I think. :)

4. My In-laws live there.
It is the retirement haven for those northerners who cannot afford Florida.

3. Gmunden, Österreich
Gmunden ist eine schöne Stadt neben dem Traunsee. In Gmunden habe ich eine köstliche Pizza gegessen.

(Gmunden, Austria. It is a beautiful town on the shores of Lake Traun. In Gmunden I had a delicious pizza.)

All of the above is true and poorly translated into German by yours truly. Someone with better German skills than I correct me, please :)

It's really a great little town - it's similar in many ways to the small Alpine towns in northern Italy, which shares a great deal of culture with Alpine Austrian. I have some pictures of the mountains on the other side of Lake Traun... I'll get around to posting them later.

5. Bandon, Oregon
It's on the Southern coast, well out of the way...Pop. 3000, they have an artist colony, a cheese factory, cranberry bogs, a neat old lighthouse, a world class golf course, this weird plant called gorse that came from Scotland and only grows in Oregon on the sea cliffs ther (and has helped cause the town to burn down twice), not to mention a very impressive array of sea stacks, many of which have anthromorphic features (like Face Rock, The Bishop's Pike, The Cat and Kittens, Elephant Rock)...I spent a vacation down there once and did not want to leave!
This is Face Rock

the light house

A panaromic view of some of the stacks, Face Rock at the left, Cat and Kittens to the right, Elephant Rock on the far right...

6. my town...
Santa Cruz, California.

We got the beach, the Boardwalk amusement park with a grand old roller coaster, mountains and woods, surfers, skaters, a really cool university and great hippies.
