The Tragedy of Right Wing Children
Yes, I know it's not my fault. And I know that right wing leanings aren't genetic. But gosh, when my daughter tells me she thinks Bush is being picked on, I feel responsible.

Her mother is as far to the Left as I am, so it didn't come from her, either. Children of right wing parents get lots of sympathy, but why isn't there a support group for parents of right wing children?

The bright side to this is that my daughter doesn't vote. If she did, she'd vote Republican. Still, late at night, I often wonder, Where did I go wrong?

1. How old is she?
Sometimes, despite parents' best efforts, their kids rebel. If you'd raised her freeper, she'd be, well, here.

If she's young, there's a good chance she'll grow out of it. And, well, even if she's grown, people can change.

3. Early 30's
There's no hope. She's already in her 30's. Nobody changes after 30 unless they go through a lot of pain, and I don't wish that on her.

4. Be thankful it's 2004
In the early 1800's, these children would've been institutionalized, hidden away in basements or attics, or would simply disappear--with others being told they were "visiting" relatives in another town.

Although there is no cure as of yet, the treatment of such children has become humane. Brief, systematic exposure to the truth, combined with family support, is showing some promise as a treatment regimen.

Caregiver support is also an important component of treatment; quite unnecessarily, parents often feel guilty of flawed for having children with this condition. An excellent support group for parents in this situation can be found at www.democraticunderground.com

5. Relax
all children are conservatives. They have insatiable desires and all ego. If they are raised with love, and allowed to think independently, they may aspire to become liberals.
