1. Hmmm...I remember owning that.....
But I don't remember liking it. Even though I love the dead, and even though I love almost every artist on it. Maybe I need to revisit it again.

I remember it being one of those albums that sounded great on paper but in actuality didn't do much for me.

2. I like the Dead, but I also liked most of the artists on this one...

As has been said elsewhere, the Greatful Dead where not the worlds best musicians, and alot of the folks on this CD are a bit more accomplished.

Also, I was a fan, or liked, most of the artists on the CD, too, so it was a real treat hearing them do these Dead tunes, in their own way.

I really didnt know anything about this CD until I ran across it in the record store...after seeing who was on it, and liking these particular Dead tunes, I got it, and was pleasantly suprised.

On edit..the one cut, To Lay Me Down, has sort of personal, romantic, signifigance to me and my partner....maybe thats why I like it so much, but I do think this is a great rendition of the tune....

I mean how can anyone top Wharf Rat?
& Los Lobos is one of my favorite bands (I just saw them a couple of nights ago in Brooklyn) but I still think the Dead pull Bertha off better, particularly the original on Skull & Roses.

My current fave cover album is this one--

Great Jewish Music- Serge Gainsbourg
1. Les Amours Perdues -Elysian Fields
2. Ford Mustang - Mike Patton
3. Bonnie and Clyde -Wayne Horvitz & Robin Holcomb
4. La Bas C'Est Naturel -Cyro Baptista
5. 69 Année Érotique - Kramer
6. Pauvre Lola - Ikue Mori
7. Ballad of Melody Nelson - Fred Frith
8. Les Sucettes - Jon
9. L' Homme a Tete de Chou - Ruins
10. Ce Mortel Ennui -- Anthony Coleman
11. Un Poison Violent, C'Est Ça l'Amour - Ezster Balint
12. Initials B.B. -- David Shea
13. Sous le Soleil Exactement -- Eyvind Kang
14. Couleur Café -- Steve Beresford
15. Le Chanson de Slogan -- Blonnde Redhead
16. Contact -- John Zorn
17. Je T'Aime...Moi Non Plus -- Cibo Matto
18. Intoxicated Man -- Medeski, Martin & Wood
19. Comic Strip -- Shelley Hirsch
20. Requiem Pour un Con -- Franz Treichler

6. yeah they did the other night
well, not actual Dead songs, but a song the Dead were known to do
Good Lovin- they went from La Bamba into Good Lovin back into La Bamba...
they also played some of Lovelight in the middle of a song

By the way, they're going to be on Letterman tonight. So is Michael Moore.
