5. "Motley Crue" too!
I saw them opening up for Ozzy with their "Shout at the Devil" tour.

WOW.

Then Oz came out with this church-like set with a full organ setup and started singing "Mr. Crowley".

Great teenage memories there.

I wasn't even a hairband kind of girl, it's just my old, fond memories involving "Pour Some Sugar On Me".

18. Haha
Wish I had a better ending to the story than... we danced and grinded against each other for a few minutes, smiled, she went her way, I went mine, that was it.

8. Styk? A "hair band"?
How did you arrive at that?

Ones I liked (and still do).

Poison.
Motley Crüe.
Brittany Fox.
David Coverdale (White Snake).
Salty Dog.
Bullet Boys.
Cinderella.
Skid Row.
Tora Tora.
Junkyard.
Spread Eagle.
Y&T.
Lita Ford...

There are plenty of others, but "Styk"?

9. It depends on what period of their work you see
Styx went through a phase of "Hair-Band" productions. It wasn't their entire body of work, but they visited that zone.

11. I saw Styx back around their heyday.
75-77... sometime around then. At the time, I really liked them, but then again it was a big era for "arena type rock".

Now that you mention it, I vaguely recall Styk's flirtation with the hair band/hard rock/heavy metal genre... it didn't quite work out.

Fashion was only part of the game. They could never duplicate the sound or attitude which was very much part of the culture back then.

One (or two), mediocre albums by a band changing directions in their musical style and seeking to capitalize on a trend in record sales does not make them part of the culture.

As you say "It wasn't their entire body of work", but their entire body of work is what they'll be known for and judged by.

BTW... wasn't Tommy Shaw a member of "Damn Yankees", along with Ted Nugent?

"I'm sailing away....."
