I love 'em because I'm a history buff, it gives me a chance to dress up and wear a sword, and just because Ren Faires are so durn completely un-PC!

Oh, yeah, I like the tightly-laced bodices on the ladies, too.:bounce:

2. I do!
my hubby and I go every year, to the Michigan festival.

I'm one of those ladies in the tightly laced bodices ... let me tell you, the Ren Fest is one of the ONLY places where we Rubenesque women feel truly appreciated.

6. Nothing regular about attending Renaissance Fairs
They call it "RenFest" around here... I'm waiting for "StimpyFest" and I might attend.

And for that matter, why the hell isn't the first season of Ren & Stimpy on DVD?

10. Did every year when my kids were that age (8-15)
We've still got a bunch of wooden swords and shields kicking around the house to prove it. Plus a couple of books, some knickknacks and a floppy velveteen hat or two.

It was fun the first couple of years, when we went to all the "dramatic" events and worked to follow the silly story line. But the jokes seemed to be the same every year, so on the next few occasions, I let the kids and their friends run around on their own and spent most of my time going through the craft booths, watching the glassworkers and the falconers, and listening to the music.

The last couple of years, it was getting very slow for the kids as well as me, and we ran out of things to do before the day was over. So we agreed to call it quits.

It was probably best when the kids were about 10-12. We even went to some local RenFair knockoffs around then, one good one at a winery put on by the local SCA and one not-so-hot one at a college. But it definitely had its limitations.

11. I do!!!
Absolutely love them! My sister worked at the MD RenFest last year and I ended up getting in free a few times!

We make our own costumes every year (sometimes 3 or 4 different outfits) and we've been making outfits that we can wear all the time (like to work) but still have the shaping qualities of a bodice. (I'm one of those Rubenesque women).

This year, I think I'm going to be taking a whole crowd of 12 and 13 year olds so they can experience what real jousting is. ( I swear, if they put on jousting tournaments in the football stadiums, then I'd be a season subscriber).

Many of my friends attend Pennsic every year as well. I would love to do that, but no one wants to be around me when it gets hot. Its like Jekyll and Hyde (sp?) I swear!

14. Some years. Not all.
It depends on the weather (heat!), my budget, my schedule, and who's working. My son worked our nearest fair every year for years with a group of his friends. A good excuse to dress up, act silly, and party all night. As a kid I attended the fair in Agoura several years in a row and loved it. As an adult, I still enjoy some parts, although it's a lot more commercial these days.

What parts do I enjoy?

The silliness. The costumes; many have nothing whatsoever to do with the period, but they are still fun. I particularly enjoy the men in kilts and the men in nothing but loincloths; although I don't know why they choose to display at the Ren Faire, that's fine with me ;-)

The beer, the mead, the chocolate covered rasberries and strawberries.

The things for sale I don't find at the local shopping mall; not much, but a few things. My didge came from a ren faire.

The artists.

And the silly slapstick on-stage performances. The puns.
