<snip>
JUNE 16--Meet Rodger Hunter. Monday night, the Idaho Falls man, 28, went to his local pub--accompanied by his mother--to knock back a few. But after a tiff with mom Sheila, 47, Hunter left Chic's in a huff. This is when things got screwy. Rodger returned an hour later carrying his pet rattlesnake, which Hunter tossed into the crowded watering hole. The three-and-a-half-foot reptile "began rattling and appeared as if it was going to strike," according to an Idaho Falls Police Department report, which also notes that Sheila told another patron that "Rodger hated her and the snake was directed at her."

1. Don't attack Republicans like that
Mr. Hunter was simply compelling his mother to take personal responsibility. You are guilty of the soft bigotry of low expectations. As a snake handler, Rodger's faith-based approach to solving social problems should not be discriminated against.

2. I don't know which is the weirder part of this story - a 28 yr old man
drinking in a bar with mom - or the thingy with the rattlesnake. Idaho dwellers, can you explain this behavior? Here on the East Coast, we think this is a little weird.

5. Seen a lot of the family drinking together in North Idaho, and
sometimes family members get drunk and threaten to shoot each other. They have the guns to do it too. Most of the time it's blowing off steam and nothing comes of it, except a repetition the next time they get drunk together. But Junior sounds like he meant business. I'm surprised it happened in Idaho Falls, though, it's pretty solidly Mormon and fundie there.
