I was in central park yesterday and took this fascinating picture of my foot.

Those sandals are highly overrated. Those Germans are having a BIG OLD laugh on us. Bottom line: cork was not meant to be walked on.

As for why my foot is in a tree, you really have to know my foot. there's just no controlling it. I was lounging on the lawn when it just drifted up there.

Nothing against cork though; of course there are birkenstocks with soles made from materials other than cork available .

They just made headlines in left-leaning newspapers (the TAZ and the Spiegel) for doing everything possible to stop their workers from forming an Union.

Really unpleasant stuff, if not against the letter of the law, certainly against the intent. They transferred unionized personnel to plants which were about to shut down, organized them in units with degrading names and so on.
The workers (a minority of them though) initially demanded things like first-aid-kits, air-conditioning and chairs in the rest area.
