What do republicans laugh at?
In the last few years my friend has become very conservative. This transformation to Repugville came soon after he got married, bought a home, and had a child. A few weeks ago we were hanging out watching a Chris Rock HBO special. He wasn't laughing much, and looked very uncomfortable. When it was over he turned to his wife and said "Well, they are just jokes." "They are just exaggerations." It's sad! This is a guy that loved Monty Python.....WHAT DO REPUGS FIND FUNNY?

1. Homeless people getting kicked?
They seem to take much delight in the sorrows of helpless and hopeless people. This would probably give them a giggle.

2. They laugh at the misfortunes of others

You know, someone falling down the stairs. That kind of stuff. They'd probably find the story about the homeless person being torched an absolute thoot.

Or killed and maimed.

AIDS also makes them chuckle as well.

5. From first hand experience, any joke about Ted Kennedy.
When I address politics with my republican brother the first words out his mouth are some stupid joke about Kennedy and a burp.

I should be able to tell you the joke because he tells it all the time but in all honesty, I do a great job of "tuning it out".

8. Very good question
Answer: not very much, because most comedy comes from irreverence, a subversive attitude totally lacking in most conservatives.

Anger is much more central in their lives than laughter.

11. Those silly homosexuals.
Every time I've heard Republicans talking about gay issues, it's with a snide little tinge. People like Tucker Carlson do that...snide, bitchy little comments about gay people. We're just hilarious to Republicans.

14. To tell the truth
I work with a Republican and I send him good Bush jokes all the time. Not the same old generic "president's name goes here" type jokes. He gets a good laugh at them because he appreciates a decent joke and he actually realizes what a dope Bush is. In his words, "I'm not to pleased at our president right now." He may be coming around.

15. He'd have to acknowledge the talent and success of a black man.
Discard this theory if the guy is black himself. (I bet he isn't though)

16. Stereotypes. That's about all they laugh at.
The stereotype of a liberal, black, Mexican, Arab, Frenchman, etc. Any racist or ethnic joke or joke which allows them to perpetuate their own stereotypical views of a particular group is outrageously funny to them.

Read Mallard Fillmore. All it is is a daily stereotypical view of what Tinsley considers a liberal. Most liberals think it's just plain stupid. Conservatives consider it great humor.
