Lactose question
You Du'ers are a fountain of knowledge so i thought i'd throw this at you. In the past 5 or so years i've noticed then whenever i have cheese or icecream i have been suffering some unpleasant side effects. I'm not a milk drinker and i take my coffee black. Is it possible to become lactose intolerant in your 30's? I had my gallbladder out about 10 years ago so i'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. Any help would be appreciated.

1. I believe it IS possible.
I seem to have become lactose-intolerant in my 20s. I get lots of gas and cramping now, that I didn't get in my youth.

Just anecdotal, not science.

4. Absolutely!

My former boss developed lactose intolerance in his 40s-50s.
He used to love dairy stuff, and now has to take those little pills if he wants to have any...

(on edit)
And I don't think the gallbladder necessarily had anything to do with it - his just came on out of nowhere.

5. Yes, you can become intolerant
It's possible to develop a lactose intolerance any time in life, just as with any other type of food allergy.

If you still enjoy dairy, I love cheese and ice cream, you can switch to lastose free milk or use something like Lactaid before eating the stuff.

8. I'll pick some up today
Last night convinced me that something is off, i had pizza and about an hour or so after i was unfit to be around. That was the 1st time in about 2 weeks i had had any dairy at all, i take a calcium supplement to try and make up for it.

7. It is definitely possible...
I became lactose intolerant at 18, then it suddenly went away at 23.

Both my parents were lactose intolerant off and on for their whole lives. And I still can't eat beef (another side effect of lactose intolerance).

I feel your pain...

9. Your gallbladder makes bile, which emulsifies fats.
Do you think that might have something to do with it? Does eating high-fat foods other than dairy also bother you?
