36. cheesecake: the explanation

When I was in high school, I was hanging out at my friend Mike's house. His parents were away and we were sitting around drinking, watching TV.

There was nothing on, but we kept flipping through the channels anyway. His older brother paused on a station that was running a "shocking and graphic" show about the "horrors" of porn. On the bottom of the screen, there was an 800 number that appeared every few minutes to raise money to fund some organization that fought this "evil" (it must have been a Christian network, but I don't know for sure).

Being drunk teenage boys, we watched...and watched...but the promise of "graphic" imagery unfortunately did not include any nude shots.

About a half hour into this, Mike's drunken brother got up and called the hotline to complain about the lack of nudity on the show. When the operator answered, he slurred into the phone: "Yo! Where's the fuckin' cheesecake?"

It was so absurd that we nearly choked on our beer while laughing. And that, my friend, is why--to this day--I can't hear the word "cheesecake" without snickering.
