Any Neil Finn or Crowded House fans?
I have rediscovered Crowded House and have been into Neil Finn's solo stuff for a while. Good stuff. Am I alone in my taste or am I becoming a weirdo for liking 40 something singer songwriters?

1. You might want to look for finnfan
He is quite an infrequent poster, but he LOVES Neil Finn and Crowded House.

There's nothing wrong with older musicians. Only the bad ones sell their souls.

me being weird for liking older singers. I am 31, which is old in the music world it seems. Neil Finn's talent is scary sometimes.

5. Need to invest in some Crowded House
Do yourself a favor, Neil Finn WAS Crowded House so if you like Neil Finn's solo stuff you will like Crowded House.

6. Oh Lord yes!
My band back in the 80's covered some EARLY Split Enz songs, and a later band covered "Six Months In A Leaky Boat" (yup, I used to be able to hit Tim Finn's high notes... no more, though!).

Crowded House's "Woodface" is in my top-20 all time favorite recordings. I cannot listen to "She Goes On" without getting choked up, I think that is one of the most perfectly sad and wistful and joyful songs ever written. But that whole cd is stunning from start to finish. As brilliant as Neil Finn is, something about the chemistry with his brother Tim seems to push him just that much further in excellence.

Finn fans, do yourself a HUGE favor and get on over to amazon.com to snap up one of the used copies of the cd by the Finn Brothers. They got together some years after their reunion on Woodface, and played and sang everything themselves in a NZ studio. Again, every song is an absolute gem, and "Angel's Heap" is one of the dozen or so best songs either of them ever wrote. Oh shoot, so is "Only Talking Sense." I think you can get a used copy for like $1.00 or something. Needless to say, it's worth a whole lot more than that. Just go buy it now, stop hesitating. Go on, we'll be here when you get back!!

8. Split Enz, CH, and Finn solo
Excellent stuff!

Directv had a free concert a few months ago from Auckland. It was the Finn brothers and guests, including Eddie Vedder and Neil's son's band. I'm bummed I didn't tape it.

I can't get enough of the music!

11. No, You're Not Alone
I wouldn't call the Finns a "best kept secret" by any stretch, but it's amazing how under-rated they/their music is by the record & media industries; people who like it, love it.

Never got to see Split Enz live, but I was lucky enough to see Crowded House when they played on the WOMAD tour, not long before they broke up.

Tim's solo stuff is great, too.

PBS ran their farewell concert recorded in Sydney - I was cryin' like a baby when they got to "Weather with You."

14. One of the best
songwriters alive today, IMHO. Fans of the DVD mentioned above should also check out the DVD of his Sessions at West 54 appearance. He was touring in support of 'Try Whistling This' at the time and the band, featuring his son Liam, is in tremendous form. I might also add that, for those with home theaters, the 5.1 surround mix is beautiful example of the artform.

Lastly, and I don't know if this is news around here or not, but a new Finn Brothers album is currently in the works. Tony Visconti is producing.

16. Hell yes!
I've got a couple of Crowded House CD's in my truck and can't wait for the new one!

Finnfan said that there was a new relesae on the way.

Oh, I'm a 35 year old guy, that also have Rage Against the Machine CD's side by side the "Singer songwriters", so don't worry about it!
