Poll question: So what movie did you see this weekend?
Edited on Tue Jun-01-04 02:05 PM by LynneSin
Seems there was a big box office bonanza with the Summer Movie Season upon us. What movie did you see this weekend.

Me - I saw "The Day After Tomorrow" TWICE. I went once with SUS and once with another friend. Because I enjoyed the special effects and the hidden message that the Bush administration is ruining our planet, I had no problem seeing this movie twice!

2. Life of Brian on DVD last night.
I was too busy and/or tired to see movies this weekend. Usually, I have no excuse other than my general dislike for theaters.

5. Previews made me laugh.

How many men go to see that just to ogle teenagers, I wonder? :D

8. I didn't just go to ogle teenagers.
That was merely a fringe benefit.

4. Double Jeopardy on video last night.
A female-led "Fugitive" .

Ashley Judd is cute, but she's not my favorite actress.
Something about her demeanor doesn't appeal to me.

Tommy Lee Jones is always good, though.

6. I joined the 21st Century and purchased a DVD player on Sunday.
I bought my wife "Copacabana" with Barry Manilow & Annette O'Toole and she loved it. She is a huge Manilow fan (we've been to a dozen concerts all over the eastern seaboard.)

I thought it was a pretty decent movie.

9. Didn't see anything this weekend.
Edited on Tue Jun-01-04 02:14 PM by VelmaD
At least not in the theater. I usually try to go out for ice cream and a movie at least one night of the weekend but I was in my hometown visiting the family and didn't go out. I did watch "The Return of the King" and "Jaws" with my little brother on dvd though.

I thought about seeing "The Day After Tomorrow" last night but was just too tired. I watched the special features on my "Indiana "Jones" box set instead.

13. Looked AND acted like Al Gore
Think about it, if he was acting like George Bush he would have left DC when the first snowflake fell instead of waiting until the last minute like Perry King did in the movie

17. That's true, and the Gore look alike actually listened
Okay, you've sold me!

I still thought the movie was an hour too long though. Lots could've been cut, like <spoilers> the entire wolves/penicillin thing.

14. Super Size Me
...was a tour de force! This movie should be shown in every elementary school classroom in the U.S., along with "Bowling With Columbine". And of course, "Fahrenheit 911" will soon take its place in this arena...

But back to "Super Size Me". The corp. media moans and groans almost daily about the obesity epidemic. But they don't dare point the finger at the Mega Advertisers that are the direct culprits: fast food, soft drink manufacturers, etc.

This movie nails it in an incredibly powerful way. The guy eats nothing but McDonald's for 30 days and almost kills himself. Becomes addicted to their food, depressed in between eating, nearly pickles his liver, no sex drive, and gains 25 pounds. His body chemistry was totally screwed up.

It goes beyond picking on Mickey D's, it also portrays our school cafeterias as junk food purveyors and intelligently illustrates the dangers of processed food, soft drinks and sugar.

Don't miss it.

19. Took the family to see "Hidalgo"
The boy loved it for the action and horse racing; the wife enjoyed drooling over Viggo Mortensen.

I myself thought it was okay, but nothing spectacular. Not a bad way to kill an evening, though.

20. The Special Effects were terrific
I especially enjoyed the monster tornados sequence in California. I thought the plot was pretty slim, but for a disaster movie, not too bad.

I also saw Shrek II. The children in the theater were pretty restless, for what it's worth.
