Manual Transmission drivers - what's your favourite gear?
I like third. Lot' s of mid-range power but can still go low without stalling.

3. I'd say third but...
Edited on Sat May-29-04 06:07 PM by Teddy_Salad
when I first came to the U.S I was having some problems driving a manual gearbox vehicle.

You see, in Australia and Britain, where I'd done all my previous driving, the steering wheel is on the right hand side of the car, not the left as it is here.

Therefore, the stick-shift is on your left and not on your right.
So I was used to pushing the stick away from myself and then up to get first gear and not like here where you pull it towards you and then up.

So I start driving here on the opposite side of the car to what I am used to and I was always taking off in third gear!

It took me quite a long time to get used to it and even now, six years later, I still sometimes do it. :silly:

5. I remember learning how to shift..and first was horrible!!
buck...buck...buck...and with a good looking man in the other lane!!!

Took me a while to learn to drive a stick..but I would not purchase any automatic transmission car ever again!

Having about 30 years between learning how to get out of 1st smoothly and now....4th (er uh 5th) is my favorite...cause I can set back and cruise!

10. Then I have just the solution for you, from our friends at "about.com"
http://frugalliving.about.com/cs/craftshobbies/a/071001.htm

"Make It With Cardboard!"

"From Pat Veretto, Your Guide to Frugal Living."

"This is one of the great 'raw materials' of our culture. Almost every food product, every toy, every piece of clothing and furnishing and gear of any kind - at one point from the producer to the consumer is packed in a cardboard box.

A very few of these cardboard boxes are recycled into more cardboard or other products. What becomes of the rest of them?

Many of them wind up in our landfills, neatly encased in plastic garbage bags so they will never decompose. (How many have you thrown out?)"

...err...maybe your idea was better.

12. I'll bet you could e-mail Pat Veretto for tips on decorating your bike...
...with cardboard!

Seriously, she's got to be one of the least-emailed people in the Western hemisphere. We should all send her a polite, thoughtful e-mail with a serious question about how we can take better advantage of the cardboard in OUR Lives. That way, NONE of us would be bored.

Well, SOME of us would I guess...

14. 2nd
Most of the autocrosses I've driven in are all 2nd gear (except for the start, of course.)

Autocrosses are a BLAST!

Put the pedal to the metal and let it roar--then shift up and cruise.
