I was confused as to what was going on and thought we had forgotten something important.

I just started watching ROTK and feel like I must have forgotten something about the ending. I loved both fellowship and ttt but like I said my memory of the ending of TTT isn't fitting with the beginning of ROTK.

4. They meet this little half-fish, half-hobbit dude named Gollum...

who used to own the ring until it was stolen by Frodo's uncle (Bilbo Baggins). Do we trust him? Maybe, maybe not. Then Frodo's friends Gimli, Aragorn, and Legolas kick some SERIOUS ASS when Sauron tries to kill all the remaining humans at Helm's Deep.

Now you are all set for Return of the King.

P.S. At the very end of the Two Towers, the half-hobbit, half-fish dude mutters to himself that maybe he should lead Frodo and his servant to some OTHER place that would kill them, so that maybe he could get the ring back again. And that's where ROTK picks up.
