Reserved Parking at the 7/11 and Gardening in high heels
Two interesting things I have run across this week here in Richmond.

Yesterday afternoon on my way home from work I decided to zip into the local 7/11 for some of their delish FREE chili and heated cheese (washed down with a couple of those "milk drinks" over by the coffee) and what do I see but a RESERVED PARKING spot. Painted right there in yellow in one of the 12 or so parking spots.

Last Saturday my wife and I seemed to honor Memorial Day early as we took a mini (very mini) Bataan Death March 6 blocks to get something to eat. There had to be a 15-20 degree difference between being in the shade and in the blazing hot sun. On the way back I see a woman working in front of her porch, gardening no doubt. She was about a 1/4 of a block in front of us and across the little side street we were walking on and I noticed that she was pushing a wheelbarrow. When she got to the corner and there were no parked cars obscuring my vision of her I noticed that she seems to be wearing high heels.

I nudged my wife and pointed and my wife double over in laughter, she had to take a standing 8 count on that one. Honest the woman had on slip on high heels (no straps or buckles) at least two inches high, the heel/bottom were black, and what appeared to be a leopard print on the upper part.

That is straight out of the "You know you are from Richmond when........." contest a weekly paper used to run-usually make fun of the image concious self absorbed that abound here (example-...when you don't work but you still take your child to daycare)

4. Was the space up front?
I would think it would be good customer service to have all the nice spaces for the paying public.

6. Ahhhh...I see now.
God forbid the place is too busy for the manager to have a place to park.

OK - now to wrap my brain around the woman gardening in high heels...

9. Now I see...if she WERE stealing the mulch...
...then maybe she took an opportunity while the mulch owners were out, and she didn't have time to change shoes.

7. Yeah, mulch
She kept pushing the wheelbarrow for about two blocks and then cut down an alley way and we could see a big pile of mulch dumped behind a house. Fresh mulch I might add.

Gee I sure hope she wasn't stealing it, it could be hard to make a fast get away what in heels and with a wheelbarrow and all.

11. I had no idea I was so underdressed for Gardening!
I usually put on some old clothes and beat up tennis shoes! Good thing we are semi-rural where nobody can see me.

13. I think that is the norm

My wife said that she had heard of this phenomenon but thought that it was just an (excuse me) urban legend or joke. Apparently not.

12. Re the high heels.
I've seen it recommended in gardening columns to do yard work while wearing golf shoes or other shoes with cleats. The idea is that it pokes holes in the soil so as to aerate it. Maybe the lady wasn't a golfer and this was the best she could come up with?

14. Not really a pointee heel
From what I could see it was a thick full sole/heel, but it was still a highheel.

The gold shoe thing is a really good idea........a really bad idea is getting an aerater and FILLING it up with water-my stepfather did that and damn near had a hernia pulling it around the yard.
