name ALL the unidentifiedbassplayers....
..who fit this wonderful quote from Robbie Fulks (http://www.robbiefulks.com/">http://www.robbiefulks.com/):

I should explain that bass players are an odd species. You might guess that with about twenty-eight notes to play in a three-minute song, and without the ego-nourishing plaudits lavished on soloists, the bass player personality might be typified by a Gary Cooperesque easygoing humility and can-do stoicism, but not so. Bassists are the screwiest of all musicians, excepting only female singers, if you can call them musicians. Drummers are the subjects of all the stock jokes, but if there's one person in your band who has a hair-trigger chemical imbalance, holds strange and unalterable opinions, pores over obnoxious magazines whose titles incorporate the name of his instrument, and demands constant catering to, it's almost always the bassist. He will wear you out by talking long into the night about speaker cabinet dimensions, string gauges and alloys, and coming advances in direct-box electronics, and if you excuse yourself to go to sleep, he will start in eight hours later at the point in the sentence where he left off.

1. OMG!
My son is a bassist and this is too close to the truth to imagine! I HATE those cabinet discussions that usually are a sly way of asking for more money for his bass habit. He will be a music major so we comply most of the time. God I am glad I don't need to hook my instrument up to a box.

2. Not ALL, but here are a few
OK, showing my age here...

Jack Casady
Phil Lesh
Bootsy Collins
Charles Mingus
Freebo (Bonnie Raitt's original bassist)

I mean, c'mon -- for Freebo his name alone gets him into the club. Might be a perfectly normal dude otherwise, who knows.

3. Robbie Filks, you have no idea what you are talking about.
Just cuz I'm a bass player, I'm supposed to care what size my cabinet is (a 15" Yamaha with a Fender Bssman head, thank you)? And I'm supposed to ahve odd and unalterable opinions? So what if I think BEn Franklin was the worst president we ever had and that "Superdestroyer" is a great name for my daughter, and you can't sway me on this. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get some D'Addario 11's, cuz I'm switching from 10's and I don't want to have to continue EQ'ing my head every thirty seconds to accomidate the higher frequencies the thicker strings produce...at least that's what the latest issue of "Bass Fascist" magazine says....

5. I Love The "Hidden" Bass In The "Bewitched" Theme Song
... I had never noticed it much when I hear it on TV (cheap speakers)... but I recently dowloaded a MP3 of the theme song and played it on my computer.

With the Winamp equalizer tweaked the way I like it and my Bose speakers... I was delighted to discover something "new" about the song.

Simple, sure... but fun anyway.

6. Some bassist
are just too cool for words

Victor Wooten
Any bassist that brings a Cocketeil along on his gigs, can't be all bad

then there is:

Edgar Meyer

You know you are bad when you can win a fiddle contest playing a bass.
