Haven't seen Brad's "Troy" but the reviews have been pretty bad. This other made-for-t.v. item includes some sappy "modern" ideas (ours), like Helen telling her old man, "I'm a woman now." I don't think that in ancient days sentiments like that were expressed between a woman and her da, but oh well. But the costumes are scaled down, looking real as opposed to Fantasy, and there *is* an attempt at atmosphere. Btw, this Achilles is tubby, shaved bald, and sort of bursting out of concentric, wide leather straps. And Helen just stood nude, like at a stripper bar, on a platform for the assessment of a roomful of ancient Greeks.

Why is it so hard to make ancient history movies. There is certainly enough scholarship around and the storylines are dramatic enough in themselves without our modern sensibilities intruding.

1. O.K., the Ship Looks Like Painted Cardboard
and so shallow, the crew wouldn't have any room to cop a nap. And the whole cast is incredibly White. And the laurel wreath one dude is wearing looks like plastic from the 99 Cents store.

(Truth in advertising.)

2. Well, O.K., the Whole Wardrobe

looks like it came from the bedroom department of Walmart, all in subdued tans and dusky rose hues. Paris's crew are all matching in tan wraparounds with black belts. And Paris just dismissed them with "Go home. Thanks." And Paris just told Priam that the whole purpose is to rescue ONE woman (not all of them) from that Greek society that "does not value women". Sounds like Shrub and the Taliban.

4. Saw Most of That One - Pretty Good!
This whole "Helen" cast looks so (too) CLEAN! Your Attila cast looks grittier, more herstorical.
